Post by: Gostlrs on January 30, 2009, 05:24:00 PM
Here is my first project car since i returned from Japan, 83 280ZX, currently not running, needs new starter and oil pump reinstalled. in process of gutting it and repainting it as well. have plans for sticking an LT1 in it from a mid 90's Camaro.

This was my pride and joy while i was in japan. i got this thing bone stock and built it while i was there. it has VG30DET engine, running about 19LBS of boost, i did all the interior work, put on the body kit, lowered it. all engine work. and was my daily driver. love the VIP style look but had balls. 275HP stock. i was around 370. not bad for a big family car

yep thats a nissan cedric. i loved that car. VG30DET had a lot of power. i did several mods and was part of a car club while there. we went on a lot of cruises and i held my own with the GTR's on the road. as for my 280 ya she don't look pretty and i am in the process of stripping it and trying to choose what to do with the engine. i am either going to do a turbo swap or drop an LT1 into it

VG30DET? Single turbo? I thought it would have been a twin set up like the 300ZX.
You must've been a resident in Japan for a long time. My mates went for a month in search for some live JDM action but all they could find were Kei class people movers.
The Fairlady has alot of potential. I've seen some really slick looking examples. At this stage in its life you'd have to replace almost everything so all avanues are open to you. LS1 conversions are very popular and yield a very impressive result, but have you considered something in the Nissan family, say maybe an RB26DETT or if you're more keen on overall performance a boosted SR20DET. Those motors are built pretty tough and there are an abundance of SR's, here anyway...
Haven't done my research on the LS1's but I know they're big, heavy maybe.
Thanks for sharing

i have already owned both those motors, the 280 was made for a V8, and actually the LT1 is only 40 more pounds then the L28E that is already in it. i have already removed all the AC and heater crap and removed all the cruise control crap so the car will end up being even lighter. also being here SR and RB parts are harder to come by and even more expensive. $ 4 $ the LT1 is the better option. i am still looking for a L28ET and would be happy with that.

as for the cedric ya it was a single turbo, the motors are the same as the 300z except the twins and intake manifold. i never had one problem with the car. i sold it and it was in the junk yard not even 1 year later.

i still have contacts to get parts from japan but not worth the time and hassle of doing a SR or RB swap.
