Title: NA vs Turbo Cylinder heads
Post by: rcdraco on June 13, 2011, 09:50:00 AM
About 2 weeks ago I ordered a new head since mine is warped .016 inch(limit is .008), and it arrived today, but it said 91-92 NON-TURBO.  Is there any difference in the heads, everything appears the same from glancing at it, aside from the missing cylinder head plug on the timing cover side.  (http://tongue.gif)

Russ told me before there was nothing different & could be used on either car. Just have to swap the internals bits like the cams.

Well, the head included cams, and they look almost the same.  I might need to pickup a caliper and measure it to be sure.

I swapped mine into the new head to be safe, since it was billed as a non-turbo head, even though I asked for a turbo head.  Now just to polish everything up before I put the car back together, at least some part of my car will be looking good.  Just incase anyone is wondering though, I got that head from clearwater heads for $370 and 3 days rebuild 3 days shipping.  Came powdercoated and everything, looks really sweet.

On the topic though, is it recommended that I use copper spray on the gasket, or just install it on a clean block dry?

Beck/Arnley 035-1932 from the 032-2846 head set.

Clean block dry gasket. no copper spray.  Your head wasnt powdercoated either, the heat from that would warp the head.

Across all models the heads are the same even the springs.  Exhaust Cams are the only difference, but thats not the head per-se.

Dry gasket. I think maybe your head probably didn't get powder coated more from the price than from anyhting else.  I understand that you can powder coat a head if the shop has a bit of ability and experience.  Resurface happens post coating.  It isn't done for alot of reasons the biggest being a heat barrier issue.
