HEY! What's that smell?

My engine has a faint smell of fuel when you walk by it after it has been running.

Opening up the hood, the smell seems to be localized near the charcoal canister. (Near the passenger side firewall)

Any ideas? Do the canisters go bad? Is it more likely a cracked vaccum hose?

ok, the smell is getting worse. I think I traced it down to the passenger's side. It appears to be coming from a hose on side of the engine, kind of near the charcoal canister.

The hose has some kind of filter in it. What is the filter for?

I think that is the PCV-Positive Crankcase Ventalation(sp).Costs a few bucks at any parts store.Can do lots of bad things if its not working/clogged.Start by replacing it and see if that helps.Even if it doesn't a new PCV is good to have.Rocky

You are right. When I googled 91 Capri PCV, that is what showed up.

I turns out I wasn't even close when I guessed PCV. As you know, PCV has nothing to do with Fuel.

I took my car to my friend and he found a crack in the top of the intake manifold.

I need to get it replaced. Anyone have one for sale?

Just go to Broadway, Ecology had about 3 capris in it. The ecology on 27th ave had 2 of them. There are 2 other yards close to the ecology on 27th ave and they both had capris as well. I would guess there are about 7 down there at least & will have what you are looking for.

Bad news, the Ecology on Broadway crushed the two capri's they had. I haven't checked the 27th avenue one yet, though I did find a 91 NA with an automatic tranny right next door.

If only it wasn't 113 degrees outside...

All hope my not be lost. It is possible they moved it to 27th Ave location. That is where the crusher is and they have waaay more room to store cars. Maybe we are in luck and they just moved it.

Turns out the smell is still there. Though it is about 50% better, it is still present.

It makes me think that it is a fuel injector issue. When the injectors came out to replace the intake, they may have been reseated better, but still leak.

What do I need to know about injectors? Is it most likely the washer? Can the washers be replaced, or do I need new injectors?

Did you replace the O-ring seals on the injectors when you replaced the intake?

What kind of shape is your charcoal canister in? The lines to/from them look okay?
