Title: Hardtop Connector - Pin assignment
Post by: JimmyGermany on September 28, 2020, 04:28:07 AM
Gentlmen,

Before it gets packed awaf for its long winter's nap. I'd like to test and (if needed) repair the lighting in my hardtop.
Does anybody know which pin is which on the connector? I assume I'd have to bridge two of them to simulate door open, and then attach 2 to a 12V source.
Thanks for any tips!

Cheers
James

Don't think there's any bridging. AFAIK there should be 4 wires - ground, hot, switched hot (door), and defrost power

Gotcha.
I’ll get a battery and my Multimeter and see what I can find out.

Gentlemen,
This is what I came up with after a session with the multimeter and a few mild shocks :-)

Interesting, I would have expected one of those to be a ground, maybe 4?

You are most likely correct.
I was testing the circuits "backwards" by putting voltage accross the light sockets contacts and then checking the results on the connector pins.
More as a continuity test - to see if any wiring needed replacing.

Anyhoo - it all seems to work, so I can proceed with the fabric re-gluing.

Cheers!

Be careful about leaving finger grooves when you press it down.

Thanks for the tip, Jack!

The "foam" on the pressboard has pretty much disintegrated, so that's gotta be brushed off.
Then I'm hoping that spray contact cement and careful pressure will do the trick.
Anything will be better than the fabric sagging onto my head :-)

Cheers

The replacement material has the foam on the back of it and it's easy to leave fingerprints in it when installing it.
