If anything I'd think you've got the dreaded crank wobble... when the car is idling look at the crank pulley. Does the pulley wobble noticeably? Have you checked the timing of the crank vs. the cams?

I might be able to stop by on my way home this week, whats your schedule like?

I work nights. So I'm open all day. I havent checked the timing. Not to sure how to.

crank wobble is when the harmonic balance is bent, you can either change the crank pully and pray that solves it or you can replace the crankshaft. I had the same problem in my 91 capri, i bent the crankshaft which eventually snapped. But hopefully that isnt the problem with yours. Check around the dizzy cap for thin layer of white stuff, that can also cause electrical problems

Crank wobble is from the small nosed snout on the earlier B6 engines, if the crank snout bolt comes loose for some reason the pulley will start to wobble and eat at the keyway in the crankshaft. The engine will slowly lose time and will run like crap, so its a possibility here. There is a 'fix' for it if it's not too bad.

A shot harmonic balancer is not really a big deal compared to crank wobble
