Heat! Grinder! I hate disassembling parts like that because its always a fiasco to put everything back together.

A trick I've seen if (when, lol) you bust those bolts - Drill out the cast dump pipe flanges where the studs went thru; and use nice nuts & bolts secure everything in place of the studs.

Okay, I'll break out the torch and go make myself frustrated - again !

I have considered that option several times since starting work on my Capri. Some military grade plastic explosive has also crossed my mind!!

That would work nice, but it's to expensive!  I prefer the old fashioned "Gallon-O-Gas" and a match for those stubborn parts. A sawz-all works great too!  Hell, Tony, you've seen my barn.............

For the life of me, I can't believe how easily those three nuts came off.
I heated the snot out of them with the torch and they turned off like nobody's business.

 


I cut the old exhaust pipe off the flange, cleaned it up and used some 2.5" mandrel bent tubing I'd been saving for just such an occasion.  I used about 5" of straight 2.5" exhaust pipe and migged it to the cut mandrel :

 

I didn't have any M10 X 1.5 nuts lying around so I ran a die over the studs and a tap through the nuts and for now I'll just reuse the old nuts.  I was even able to reuse the old gasket.  Talk about luck ! All in all, not a bad Saturday morning.

Ya i think I put my top up about 5 times in 1 year...all because of rain..LOL

parked in garage at night...about 35-40 in the morning but just a 10 min ride..gloves and hat with heater worked fine..awesome in the afternoon...
