Title: Official hello from the new guy
Post by: icurunnin on August 17, 2009, 01:37:00 PM
Well today is the first day I have had time to upload pics of the XR2 I just purchased. I didnt want to say hello with pics to show.

Bought it from the original owner and it is in great condition.Only thing wrong with it is not much. Needs both halfshaft seals, re-upholstered driver seat and for me to figure out why the a/c keeps kicking off and on.

I look forward to swapping info with you guys and become so use to the site.

thanks fella's.

I just bought a blitz ebc with apexi solenoid and the maf adapter.

Going to fix the a/c and the output shaft seals first though before I doing anything else.

Next on the list are Rocketman eprom, HKS SSQ, walboro pump, intake, exhaust and intercooler upgrade.  I will start a thread in photographs of the upgrades.

Hey ICU!  She's a lady. When you're ready for upholstery, give me a yell and we'll go to Mexico and have our cars done and drown ourselves in Margaritas.  Gus

Your cooling coil ( heat exchanger ) needs to be cleaned. That is why your a/c turns on and off. Symptoms of that would be like the ac cools at first and then stops cooling.

I dont think its the condenser thats the problem. The pressures look great when the compressor engages.

It kicks off and on even when the pressures are good. I bypassed the hi/low cutout switch and it still does the same thing.

Going to check the a/c relay and then the connection at the compressor and make sure I am getting good ground and power.

I will clean the condenser after I am done with the tranny seals. Its first on the list for the simple fact I HATE leaks.

Condensor is in the front of the radiator. I was talking about the evaporative coil.

that would effect the compressor kicking off and on rapidly?

its not that the compressor is staying on and just not blowing, it will work perfect at times and blow ice cold for a little while then go into its fits of kicking off and on.

I took that dust shield plate off from under the car to do the seals on the tranny. While I am down there I am going to clean the ground on the compressor and check the voltage at the clutch coil to make sure its not just a bad connection.

Yes, what happens is that when the heat exchanger is dirty, it is unable to exchange the heat and hence becomes very cold. Being extremely cold it triggers the air con off which is built in as a safely feature in most cars.

so wouldnt that be controlled by the hi/low switch which is right outside the evaporater core?

I bypassed the switch and it continued to do the same with no effect.
