should i use syntetic motor oil on my capri??
-
As with anything else, this is a choice you need to make for yourself. There are definite benefits to using synthetic. It doesn't break down nearly as fast as conventional which can lead to fewer oil changes. I just switched to a synthetic blend and have to say I will never go back to conventional. The common "tick" our engines have is all but gone, now. There is a wealth of information on the Internet discussing the pros and cons of both oils. Whether you go with conventional or synthetic, make sure you are using the correct weight of oil for the conditions you will be driving in.

I was told at work that you're supposed to use synthetic oil with turbocharged cars, but I haven't bothered with it in my capri, since I change the oil often and rarely drive it.
There is no difference between conventional and synthetic blend, ALL oils currently sold, excluding straight weight SAE 30, 40, 50 are synthetic blend oils.
Full synthetic on the other hand contains a host of fun additives in it's base, depending on the brand, which can clean up your engine and defeat particles before they even reach the filter, which is a big benefit in a car with the engine oil being used in a 15,000 rpm turbine bearings.
Synthetic's carry a high cost though, fram recently started branding a full synthetic oil for ~$5 per quart, which is produced by Conoco-Phillips, used in 76, Kendall GT, and even Motorcraft. When I change my car I plan to use this, since it's affordable, and since we sell it at work I get a nice discount.

i want to use syntetic oil but it may get oil leaks since my capri has an older engine.. i use 5W-30W because my engine is rebuild. is that a good choice of oil weight??
-
I've always used synthetics in my XR2's. Never had any issues with leaks due to switching to the synthetic.
RC: Try 150,000 RPM 15k is barely spooled for a turbo

I run synthetic in my 95 geo, changed over at roughly 105,000 miles. Doesn't seem to help much for the oil changing color, but it does definitely seem to keep the engine cleaner and quieter.
Normally you should stick with the OE weight of oil, which is 5w-30, but I think our cars would run fine with a 5w-40 or a 10w-40 though if you wanted something a bit tougher.

am planning to use 5w-30 royal purple motor oil on my next oil change. is this a good choice??
-
RP might be a bit overkill.
-
what about mobil 1 5w-30 syntetic oil?
-
That should be perfectly fine, but if you're not comfortable with the idea, you can run conventional oil without any issue. The car was built to run with it from the factory, and you won't notice any issues, as long as you change it every 4,000 or so miles.

I've almost always run Mobil 1 "full synthetic" 5W30
-
alright. thanxx guys :D

my friend told me to use 20W-50 motor oil because its an older engine. i use 5W-30. should i use 20W-50??
-
Stick to 5w30 and youll be fine (http://smile.gif)

Strictly Mobil 1 15w50 in the B6T or the BPT.

My friend showed me dyno results from just using different oils..
at UTI they have a dyno and test things there.
All the synthetic oils had about a 5hp increase over the regular oils
