Top cover / boot won't stay up
« on: May 08, 2015, 03:39:09 PM »

When I put my top down, the cover / boot that covers the top in the down position won't stay up. Seems like it used to. I have to hold it up while I'm lowering the top which is a pain. Is this normal?

The gas lift struts that hold your trunk lid up also hold up the boot lid. Sounds like they are worn & need replacing. Theyre pretty cheap to replace

cheap? $20-$25 ea last time I saw. That's $50+.  Maybe to rich dudes like you, lol, but I'm broke at the moment. Have to live with that one. :) Sadly, the one's I bought last time only have a 1 year warranty. so they've been on the other car for 3 years, and have closed the trunk maybe 10x, they're shot too. I did notice taking off the spoiler, those work! heh

Maybe someone will find a great deal w/ codes and stuff? :)

Ah, well that explains it.  My trunk supports are shot.  I found them on Amazon (with spoiler) fairly reasonable but I didn't buy them because I was $.02 away from free shipping...LOL.

Thanks a bunch!

Ehh, nope. Rockauto has Monroe brand lift supports for $10/ea for both spoiler & non-spoiler cars

Pretty sure they can be had cheaper with some no-name eBay deals too

I will say, they are significantly more expensive in a local store like Advance or Autozone.

Here's the latest Advance code that come out at 6am this morning...

WD520

$50 off $100 for first 2000 customers,
$40 off $100 for next 1000 customers,
and 30 % off nearly everything for all customers! Valid 5/17 - 5/23

That's about $16 each. I bought them over a year ago and they still work good. I bought a spoiler afterwards so I might have to upgrade.

You can always put the top down while someone else drives at least 35 mph. The deck lid stays up and the top goes down rather quickly, lol.
