thanks blueamber i'll give the switch a try.  also I found a black wire with a yellow strip(ground wire) located under the air intake box with a small connector on it and the other end screwed
to the frame, does anyone have any idea what it is suppose to be connected to?

the issue ended up being the calibration of the linkage to the headlamp motor.  the linkage was correct; the linkage arm needed to be affixed to the motor in the correct position.

Maddmike that wire is a ground that connects the car frame to the transmission body... there should be a spade on the transmission that the wire plugs into...
