Post by: Aaron McKenna on June 01, 2012, 04:44:00 PM
Hello!

I'm new to the site and recently purchases 3 capri's! All 91's red..I can't get the non-turbo'd one to start not getting power to fuel pump but can't find fuse or relay where they say it should be..checked switch in truck its pressed down...any help is appreciated!

BTW...it was sitting for about 8 years after front end collision with 40k on it..

The relay for the fuel pump is under the dash, under the ECU up against the firewall. A pain to get to. Check all the fuses under the dash, and under the hood.

A note - The intake tract must be in place and pulling air thru the VAF in order for the pump to run. The pump will not prime like a normal car does. The pump switch is inside the VAF

Ok I'm not sure how to see if the relay is bad or if that is my problem..All I know is I'm not getting power to fuel pump and everything is hooked up and car does run like a champ if you unhook air inlet and squirt gas into it but as soon as you stop squirting it stops unhooked fuel filter not getting fuel that far either....any suggestions?

The pump might be seized, have you put a multimeter to the connector under the rear seat while the VAF was open? (Jam a screwdiver in the door lol) there's also a fuel pump jumper on the firewall, it's one of the empty connectors.

Take the panel off under the back seat, tap the pump top while the pump has power- it might free it up.

Is there a way to check to see if it is locked up or not? I tryed banging on it with key on...nothing....took screws out and lifted it up it's all rusty looking I'm assuming I need a new one...

Like I said above, nothing will happen if the key is just on - the VAF needs to be open or the firewall test connector needs to be jumpered in order for the pump to run.

If it's rusty it's likely seized up. I have a complete assembly for sale if you're interested

Might want to check the inside of the tank too.
