misfiring
« on: May 17, 2014, 12:33:02 AM »

Hello all. Im new here. I just bought my first Capri.

I think I have a problem with It misfiring.  At least that's what I think it is. I've had it 3 weeks and its only happened twice. After driving about 10 min. When I pulled up to a stop the whole car started to shake violently then It Shut off. So I put it in park and started the car up no problem. But as soon as I put it in drive, the same thing happened. So to get going I had to throw the car quickly in drive and take off immediately to keep the car from shutting off. After that no problems. I replaced the spark plugs just to be sure. (They were bad anyways)

Then about a week later, the same thing happened. No check engine light either, btw. Im going to be doing cap and wires here shortly to see if that helps. But, if any of you have a better idea of what it might be, please let me know.

Cap & wires are going to help. The Capri has a crude ECU system, it won't throw a misfire code.

If it continues to happen, try checking all the intake piping & vacuum hoses for leaks. If there's a leak behind the VAF sensor, it will run lean and super rough, and won't want to rev much.

Thank you very much. I'll get a vacuum test done at work as well as wires and a cap. Any idea where I can get some colored wires for less than $30?

They may fit but they're longer than the stock wires, the EGT used the 1.8 engine which was longer. Just for note's sake anyway

Thanks. Zip-ties eat extra long wires for breakfast haha. I can even get some nice red zip-ties too. Add a little more color to the engine.

Any other wire sure, I'd prefer not to have my ignition wires ziptied up or all over the place. They're high visibility, too.

You can order NGK's for a turbo 88-89 Mazda 323....same motor. They are the wire of choice on the B6t.
