FS: NIB Soft Top + Misc parts
« on: July 14, 2011, 05:27:00 AM »

Hey folks I have some more stuff for sale. Prices do not include shipping, local delivery is an option if you're in or near NorthEast PA.

First off: a New In Box Soft Top. Only opened to take pictures. This is for the "early" 90-june92 build date capris. $220

Up next we have a full set of Wagner brand brake rotors. These are really nice, not cheap stuff here. The Fronts are for the SMALL brakes, so they won't fit the XR2 or some N/A's. The rears will fit any capri. $75 for all 4 rotors + shipping. I'll throw in a set of pads for the front too

Mudflaps/fendergaurds: these are in decent shape. $20

Blower motor resistor pack: If your blower fan only works on HIGH then this is for you, it's installed in the lower airbox on the passenger side. $30

I also have a whole bunch of interior bits for sale, some airbag power supplies & sensors, and a hard top cart. Ask me!

In an effort to be helpful I would like to say that there is no large or small varieties in front discs.  All fit all as standard and all replace all with nothing supersedeing anything.

If those brakes fit a stock capri configuration, then they fit all stock configurations sans modifications.

Hope that helps you find a home for them.

There is indeed a difference.

Here's a LARGE (10-3/16" OD) rotor next to a SMALL (9-3/8 OD) rotor:

Here's the SMALL rotor sitting atop the LARGE rotor, you can see there is a significant difference in size, as well as swept area:

The dust shields backing the rotors are also specific to the rotor size. Running a small rotor with large pads also creates a potentially hazardous condition, the pads overlap the edge of the rotor 1/4" or more, and given enough wear can achieve direct pad-pad contact & result in no/diminished braking force applied to the rotor. I've seen it. I am unsure if the calipers are different, or if the difference lies in the pads.

I do know that ALL XR2 have LARGE front rotors. With N/A it seems fairly random, some have the large size & some have the small size.

Thank you for your help, but your information is not correct.

thats right the first capri I had came with different rotors 1 small and 1 big. previous owner replace one without knowing  the difference in size till i notice that one side was braking more than the other side.it would pull to the side when i would apply the brake

Thats good to know.  I'll try to update my memory bank.  The little ones look to be 323 rotors.  So those must be for the base model Capri through 92. Do you know?

California gets different struts and you got different rotors (this is a humorous statement not to be taken seriously please).

In summary the differences being the rotor, the splash shield, ...and pad?

If the rotors are being replaced then the larger ones can get put on for the same amount or work.  Swap the splash shields or run without them. my.02

Sorry it didn't help you sell them just yet. It still makes for a nice bump.

FYI if its incorrect, its not information.

Russ and I are trying to see if there is a correlation between transmission option & rotor size on the N/A

The dust shields are pressed onto the hubs, they cant' be swapped easily. I have swapped them on my AWD rear knuckles, but I had to tack weld them back on. You could probably run without them with no ill effect.

The pads appear to be the same? I'm not entirely sure. I think the calipers are different as far as I know. Russ & I are looking more into the issue to see exactly what is different between the two setups.

Matt, how are you at installing softtops? Want to offer a price for the top installed?

The last time I installed a top was 2008 - I wasn't very good at it then. Honestly, probably best to find a shop to do it  ;)

Average of 8 hrs for professional to install.
It took me 2 days, several hours each day.
I think anyone who could read can do it.
I think mine turn out pretty good with the fact my comprehension isn't good.
You will need one whole day.
Take a day off or use the weekend.
My local guy wanna charge me $300 for labor and he's working on the side job.
Once you've done it, you'll be proud with yourself also.

Well, MidCounty Mustang's site implies that anyone of average skill can change a top but I highly doubt it.

I replaced a top on an 85 Chrysler Lebaron once but it didn't look too good afterward.  That top seemed far less involved than the Capri's.
