Air conditioner idle speed

(1/2) > >>

Gene:
From my earlier Capris, I seem to remember that when the air conditioner kicked in, the idle speed would pick up to hold a relatively smooth idle with the additional A/C load. The '94 NA automatic I now have does not change idle speed when the A/C kicks in. Am I remembering right? Are there a set of checks for this? I couldn't find anything in the service manual that referenced this.

Gene:
Hmmmmm. Maybe I just imagined this. Anybody?

CapriTypeR:
From what I remember, my earlier Capris kicked up the idle, as well. The AC does not work in the Super Roo, I couldn't tell you if it does it or not!  As long as it doesn't make the car stall, it shouldn't matter, I would think!

I have noticed this. Mine will go up for a few seconds but then it will go back down to regular speed again. I guess because it takes more effort to build the momentum and once thats over, it takes less energy to keep it going?
it also does this with the head light switch for some reason? haha

CapriTypeR:
The Super Roo does this as well, with the headlight switch!  The load put on the alternator when you operate the headlights is what causes it, I believe.
