Well guys,
It's time to charge my ac again this year. So I bought some 134a and one of those quick connect adapters. Filled up my expedition, then my f150, then when it came to my capri, ummmmm. I'm stumped!
My adapter won't fit, I see two ports but their both small. ...
How do I figure out which side of the ac is the low port side.
I don't really want to spend the extra money on a mechanics ac charging set . But if I have too it would be better than the alternative

The capri doesn't use R134A, they use the older R12A and they don't mix. The reason the ports are different is so nobody accidently puts R134A into it...LOL

They make a R134 conversion kit which is nothing more than new adapter fittings. You can buy it and Advance Auto will loan you a vacuum pump with a credit card or cash. Use it and return it for a refund. Its against the law without a recovery tank to release the R12 to the atmosphere, big fine, so you might seek professional help. Luckily I have a friend with all the equipment. I would think an AC guy would be glad to take your R12 as its getting harder to find and expensive. You might look on eBay. If you do get her empty then pull a vacuum for about 30 minutes before introducing the new Freon.
With the system empty is a good time to change the orings and Schrader valves. Use AC grade which are green. Don't forget to add oil.

Now you can stay cool. Most auto parts stores use to carry the kits. I forget exactly when they did the change over. I remember retro fitting my 94 Explorer.
It was kind of ironic. The government did it to save the ozone layer yet every back woods mechanic was dumping their R12 into the atmosphere for the change over. There was probably more ozone damage that year than any other year. :)

All cars model year 1994+ had R134a as refrigerant. The 94 capris had R134a

I know in 94 they changed over to R134a, but I was unaware of the change to the capri because I thought they might of stopped production around the end of 93 so new standards wouldn't of applied yet.
