93 CONVERTIBLE TOP LATCH HANDLE
« on: September 09, 2010, 11:00:00 AM »

Hello to All!
Can  someone tell me how in the wide, wide world of sports to change the entire conv top latch handle assembly? I need to replace the driver side & cannot find what I need in the complete service manual. There is a screw where the handle itself pivots that has a head under what I would call the front interior trim piece or moulding( plastic). I sincerely hope the it will pop off...do not want to have to peel back the fabric itself just to replace the assembly.

Also, my air bag indicater is blinking at me. Can't afford to have the bag repaired & wondered if I can selectively stop the alarm light.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Weather here in Dayton has been amazing the last couple of weeks....dry but the sun is outstanding!

Good things to you all.

Phil-
The top header piece that runs the width of the top pops right off. I use a screwdriver to get under it, then pry up gently until it pops, then just keep running down the width of the top until they all pop off.  Then you can use a phillips screwdriver to remove 3 screws per side holding on the latch.  To reassemble, just reverse the steps.

Russ!
Thanks so much! That's what I was hoping...
Is one side or other of the molding better to pry?

Nope, take your pick!  The pins are located symmetrically across the length of the header. Start about 6-8" in from the edge, and get a feel for where the pins are. It's simple, and you'll have no problems!
I usually put the top down to pull the header panel.

RE: your air bag light - first check the fuse - a blown fuse on that circuit will illuminate that light (although I'm not 100% sure that it will cause it to blink, but still an easy, quick, and free thing to check).  Failing that, just pull the gauge cluster, and pull the bulb.
