Temp Guage
« on: July 22, 2010, 07:02:00 AM »

I pulled the plug on my 91's thermostat housing. Then I plugged it back in. Now my gauge reads zero all the time.

Any suggestions?

I have two theories. The first is I pulled too hard and separated the wire from the plug

I noticed there are three wires coming from the wire bundle. a Black one that goes to ground, a green/pink striped one, that goes to the thermostat housing, and a yellow one. I thought the yellow one was just hanging when I started. Maybe I was wrong

Can anyone tell me where the yellow wire goes?

the temp sensor on the thermostat housing is not for the temp gauge ... the sensor on the thermostat housing is the temp sensor to tell the cooling fan to turn on. iirc from what rocketman told me our car has 3 temp sensors. 1. on the thermostat housing is for the cooling fan. 2. there is one under the intake manifold which is for the ECU. and the third one i am unsure of the location is for the temp gauge. i dont know why your temp gauge is reading zero but im thinking it does not have anything to do with the thermostat housing sensor.

Check the forward part of the thermostat housing. There is a temp sensor there with a pin style single wire connector... thats the gauge sender.

Thanks Rocketman! As always, you are right on target.

If you envision the Thermostat Housing like a turtle, the head faces the passenger compartment. There is a Blade Connector on the back of the turtle that the striped wire connects to. Where the turtle's head should be, there is a pin connector for the yellow wire. The yellow wire controls the dash board temperature guage. The black wire looks like it is attached to a nut on the engine block as a ground.
