Sway bar upgrade?
« on: October 29, 2014, 12:06:57 PM »

I have a '93 NA car and wanted to upgrade the sway bars. Is there a difference in the XR2 turbo sway bars? There is a turbo parts car locally I could get the sway bars off of if it helped.

I measured the sway bars and found the front pretty stout at 30mm but the rear is tiny at only 14mm. So, I may not worry about the front and do something on the rear.

I could get the Addco rear sway bar and just get poly bushing links in the front. Any suggestions on an upgrade?

I have a 91 N/A with a MTX, the front sway bar is 30mm and my rear sway bar is only 12mm.

This is an interesting thread.  I ordered bushings from Russ and when received they were 17mm.  He said these are Ford parts and it's what he's always sold.  My '91 manual N/A also has the 14mm rear bar.  There are 14mm bushings available from Summit, but I haven't ordered any yet so I don't know what would be involved in using them.  I'm keeping the 17mm ones for the time being as I'd rather have the larger bar.  We'll have to keep this alive.

I crawled under my NA and didn't notice a front sway bar. Is my car suppose to have one? I see the empty mount hole on each control arm. Then I see one bar running from the drivers side frame and bolted with the same nut on the control arm bushing. That's a strange set up.

I guess I'll add this to my list.

Is your model equipped with an automatic transmission? I've read that only manual trans models were equipped with sway bars from the factory.

Yeah mines an auto. That explains the why? Thanks.
I'm still going to try to add them. Maybe they thought only women bought autos, lol.

Yeah all the bolt holes/mounting points should still be in your car, you should be able to bolt a sway bar right in.
