turbo mod for n/a
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:02:00 AM »

Hi everyone so I have 91 n/a.I have a new never used turbo just laying there I have a xr2 exhaust manifold with the turbo the bad part is that the turbines and shaft are no good. The shaft is broken in two pieces. My idea was to weld a plate to the maniflod to bolt on the turbo I got there. Now with the high compression from the n/a motor will it be a factor if I just were to stick with the internal watesgate boosting at 7 psi or will it be safe.  The turbo is from a isuzu work truck and is just a bit bigger than the stock xr2 turbo

That could work, yes. There's a lot more that you'll want to think about than just the turbo though.

What will you do for fueling? Just sticking a turbo on will not work.

What transmission do you have?

The compression is not an issue - getting proper fuel and timing is.

Don't forget a distributor, knock control, overboost control, fuel pump, intercooler and plumbing, turbo air flow meter, ecu, harness to hook it all up, assorted hoses brackets and hardware.....unless of course you just want to blow it up...then save your- self some time and money and turn the motor on and just put a brick on the gas pedal and stand back....shouldn't take long.  Not being mean...just trying to put it into perspective for ya.

If you decide to go the turbo route, let me know. I have all the necessary parts to do the conversion. Email me a list of what you want, and I'll work up a package deal for you!

Just make sure you ask LOTS of questions!  Matt (Rocketman) and Clay(azgtx) are two of the most knowledgeable Capri people out there. Matt did the conversion on my 94 N/A (the only turbo-converted 94 on earth, as far as we know!), so he knows what he's talking about. He is also the creator of the RocketChip, which allows you to run 16 pounds of boost safely. So, again, he knows what he's talking about!
