loud squeal
« on: September 13, 2012, 04:06:00 PM »

Ok so the car squeals horribly when you firs crank it up it squeals for about 20-30 seconds then stops sometimes pumping clutch seems to help. replaced alternator belt thinking that was it tightened it to the max and everything in between still squeals. if it squeals you let it shut up then drive it awhile it will not do it again that day unless car sets for many hours. NEED ANY HELP IM STUMPED!!!!

Still sounds like the alternator belt - is the belt maxed out on the adjustment?

Alternator belt.....what was the build date on the car, or has your alternator ever been replaced?

Had the same problem and even after new belt still squealed. Found out I was maxed out on adjustment even with new belt. Got another new belt the next size down, swapped it out and the squeal is gone.

There is a pully upgrade kit available for the early build cars...excellent for when the alternator has been swapped out....

Folks on the Yahoo! board are recommending the NAPA 25-9360 belt (or equivalent from other manufacturers, your autopart store should have an interchange list in their computer)

It's slightly thicker in width, and a tad shorter than the stock belt allowing the adjustment to fall in a usable range

The wider belts ride up higher in the pulleys, effectively making the pulleys larger in overall circumference and requiring a slighly longer belt. The guys on the Yahoo! board pointed to that as a belt that works well.
