Title: Shifter linkage refurb.
Post by: JimmyGermany on October 30, 2023, 06:42:22 AM
Gentlemen!

Been a while since I posted here. Been busy with my Capri’s bigger “grand” brother. I’ve unwittingly started a collection of red Mercurys.

Anyhow - one of my winter projects is to refurbish a shifter linkage I picked up somewhere. (It’s been sitting around for a while and I don’t remember where). I also got a rebuild kit that very helpfully came without instructions.

Anybody got a set of pics or an explosion diagram of how the linkage is set up?

Thanks in advance.
James.

PS - In the shop that has my Grand Marquis, they’re also working on a Capri like ours. I think my land-boat is in good hands.

It's really simple. The back on is just a bolt. The front ones have to have the swaged end of the rivet ground off and replaced with a shoulder bolt. In the US SAE bolts require a washer to take up a little slack, you may be able to get metric bolts that fit.
