Street Fire CDI 5520 ignition
« on: October 02, 2009, 07:22:00 AM »

I have been considering the performance upgrades to be done to the N/A Capri. I know I know "just buy a turbo". The problem with that is I already have a N/A and the wife does not want a standard. She can drive a standard, rides the motorcycle like a mad man, just dosn't want to when cruising in the Capri.
So I want to get a little more out of this one with out getting too crazy. So that's down to intake exhaust mods and ignition.
I have been checking out the 5520 Street Fire CDI. This is kind of a new area for me. I have not done performance mods to cars. Motorcycles were my hobby until I picked up this Capri. So if any of you have some information if this will work, if it is worth it ($110.00 on ebay)and maybe some guidance on the installation. I am pretty sure I have the wiring figured out. mostly a question of will this really work with the Capri and how affective is it?

Hey Georell!  You can put a little louder exhaust, dill the filter box open, advance the timing 2-4degrees. Not much else.  Gus

Gus
Thanks. I am planning on doing the intake and exhaust work.
So are you saying the cool Stret Fire CDI thingy doesn't help at all?
Here's a comparison to the MSD 6AL some of you may be more familiar with.

Hey Georelle! I'm not believing you'll realize any performance boost. Just keep keep a good tune on your car. Usually a stepped up ignition is needed when you're running high boost or high compression. This is because high cylinder pressures will create an atomosphere where the spark doesn't want to jump the plug gap.  Gus

Thanks for the input. I haven't thought about the seats. So I might have to do some shopping around to see what the cost is on those.
So now my plan for general performance improvements is:
   -Intake
   -Exhaust
   -Rims
   -Sway bars & Struts
   -Seats
