Where are the Horns suppose to be located?
« on: February 11, 2010, 05:37:00 AM »

My 91's horn does not work. I looked for the actual horns, but did not find them. Usually they are mounted near the radiator. Is that the case in a capri also?

I am not too worried because I figured someone took them off when they painted the car. What I am really looking for are the horn wires so I can replace the horns.

Any suggestions?

Hey Daryl may I make a suggestion?  NO?  Oh well, here it is anyway.  Get a hardtop and put some train horns on it, running them on the  150psi compressor in the trunk.  Just a suggestion.  I must warn you, you will get attention.

horns are under the front bumper under the lense under the driverside headlight. There are two of them there.

Check the relay if everything looks okay, I had a relay disintegrate on me once (its under the driverside headlight bucket)

Excellent suggestion. I found the horns (And a broken motor mount) and they all look good. I tried checking the fuse box but did not find a fuse for the horns. Your info on the relay is a big help.

I agree with Rocketman.  I've had 3 or 4 relays go bad between 2 different Capris.  There's never been anything wrong with the horns or the fuses on my cars.
Almost for sure that's where your trouble is.  It'll be to the driver's side of the rad and you're going to have to get half upside down to get at it.  Mine were all burnt out.

While we're on the subject, are there any plug-and-play horn replacement for our cars?  I'm keeping the '94 XR2 stock, but for the '93, I think I want it to have a deeper voice - any suggestions?

I've got a generic parts-store replacement horn on my Capri. Was not too happy with the OEM horns.

All I did was remove the OEM bits, bolt up the new one and splice the + wire to one of the stock horn's power wire. Simple install, can be tricky to get to. I dont remember exactly but I might have it installed above the center of the bumper under the hood latch.

Thanks, Matt -

I guess that means I can shop for almost anything as long as it doesn't require a pre-amp or PA system.

Thanks Guys! I pulled the relay, and noticed rust on the blades. A little steel wool and my horns were back.

Mark-
You need a train horn under your hood! Something like this:

Y'know, I think not.  But thanks for the hilarious vid.

I was thinking more of a dual-tone horn, much like you hear on a Cadillac or Lincoln.  The only aspect of the car that I can honestly say I dislike is the "meep-meep" sound it emits when you hit the horn.  Not enough brass, if you know what I mean.

I'd even settle for a pickup horn - I just want the install to be simple and more expressive.
