XR2 engine vs NA engine
« on: February 16, 2011, 11:54:00 AM »

Any difference in these engines as far as the block and heads? The engine in my car is fine, has 104k, but bought a running 91 NA car and want to rebuild the engine with bigger pistens and miata cams. Worried about my tranny bolting up to the NA engine also.

92 Capri XR2
Rocket Chip
2 1/2" Exhaust
K&N Filtered intake
Two Stage Boost Controller/BOV
Front Strut Brace
H&S Springs/Tokico Struts
17x7 Wheels/205-40-17 Tires

Wanting to get the hybrid turbo when i rebuild and the new down pipe from Rocket.

Miata cams? They're the same cams that are available on our motors. Aftermarket?

The N/A engines are identical aside from pistons (compression) & cams. The N/A block will bolt diretly to the N/A trans.

Which downpipe are you getting from me?

Think he's talking about the intake side J pipe.  Downpipe is from that other guy who posted a few weeks ago, he bored out either end of the pipe off the turbo exhaust side.

I read somewhere on here the miata cams were better. Maybe the guy was talking about after market cams. I thought it was Rocketman who offered the better down pipe. I probably have that mixed up also. lol. Anyway, thanks for the info on the engines. I just did'nt want my car down while rebuilding an engine. Nice to know it all fits and is the same. Whats the next size up for pistons and overbore? .010? Thanks again.

How much, and is there a performance gain over the stock down pipe? Thanks.

$110 shipped...it will take me a week or so to make one... i already sold the one that i had on my car. have not dyno tested it but the turbo seemed to spool faster with it on... i only ran it for 2 weeks before switching to a mitsu td04 turbo.

Ive been looking for a replacement DP forever. Dont have the skills/tools necessary to make one myself.
