Distributor modification
« on: September 02, 2011, 08:29:00 PM »

Back again with an 'out of the norm' tech question.

I'll modify the engine to run on a carb instead of the elactronic FI unit so it will not need the ECM... I still have the stock distributor to deal with.
If there isn't a "bolt-on" swap one that will work with out the ECM, then (with some modification) couldn't I take the drive-gear & lower mount section of the stock one & adapt it to the lower part of a different (4 cyl)distibutor... or just swap-out the guts to resolve the ECU dependency.

The distributor slots into the into the intake camshaft. It does not use a drive gear.

Like I've said before, you're going where no-one else has gone (and probably never will)

Good luck

Look for the older 1.3 festiva.

They use a similar distributor, with similar bolt pattern.

Just checked, the festiva uses an ECU to control emissions, so this might not help.

Just so you know though, we have more people here able to diagnose the Fuel injected issues then carb.  And you might actually run into inspection issues with the vehicle modified the way you plan.
