wheel bearings I think
« on: June 21, 2012, 07:07:00 AM »

well I need some help / input again...
I think I need to replace right front wheel bearing. do the bearings go on the hub or in the thing that you need to pop loose from the ball joints that the axle passes through?

must the bearings be pressed on or is that just the way it should be done?

I've changed wheel bearings a long time ago on a Dautsun 210 i think, and just knocked them in carefully, but I dont remember what part they were located on / in.

Will I need to bleed the brakes after I reinstall the caliper?

thanks

I do have a guide here for a rough & dirty DIY bearing replacement. It's right at the top in the wheels/tires/suspension section....

The whole knuckle needs to be removed from the car to do them. If you unbolt the caliper and hang it from the strut or strut tower you will not need to bleed the brakes as you are not disconnecting the brake line.

The DIY was right on Matt. I wouldn't have thought about the gently heating step.

Got it done. Road test tommorrow.

Next, still cv axle. Too bad I didn't have funds for it this weekend.

I love this little blue car

Day 1 roadtest ... Approx 50 miles all went well and sounds / feels good.
