I picked am picking up a hardtop this weekend, and want to know how "hard" it is to install?
Does anyone have instructions?

sounds like you're driving-out your capri and hoping to throw it on right there.
take another hauler. this could be tough without the right torx bolts, if you're never done one.
see if the seller has the 5 torx/allen bolts included.
You need 5 bolts.
1 bolt each, above each sun visor.
1 bolt each, peering-down the exterior wall directly behind each front seat.
1 [large] bolt rear-center behind rear seat (may be covered with a round vinyl plug).
these bolts are 2-3" long, so make sure you have tested some bolts from Lowes prior to picking-up the hard-top.
once you successfully succeed, it's easire from then-on.

The only advice I can give is....Don't try to do it yourself! Get someone to help you put it on the car. Once you get it in place, it will be very apparent what needs to be done. 1 bolt behind each sun visor, 1 bolt at each corner by the little windows and 1 bolt in the center at the back. Don't forget to connect the plug for the rear defroster. The wire will be down in the boot where the soft top folds into. Hope that helps!

If the 3 bolts that are permanently attached to the hard top (2 side bolts, and 1 rear bolt) are not present, get some of your $$ back!
You will also need the 2 bolts that should already be in your car. Both are located behind the visors.
If you are not getting the factory hardtop tool, bring a 6mm allen key with you.
Dont forget to remove the center bolt plug on your boot cover!

Personal recommendation since I don't have the tool for my car, invest in a ratcheting offset screwdriver. They're at harbor freight for about $7 and include the correct allen head adapter you need and a nice low entry to clear anything, and it's a nice tool to have for other uses.

My daily driver was wrecked in its past life, driver rear quarter panel and into the trunk was replaced, and putting a hard top on is a trick, the whole car is bent slightly. This makes having the correct type mounting hardware a must.
You can buy almost the correct metric hex bolts from Ace hardware, but they don't have the shoulder area missing the threads so the bolts can float and be lined up easy.
My last top had the bolts but they were a banged up mess, end threads were worn off. I bought the bolts from Ace, then ground each one down using the old ones as a pattern. Put them into an electric drill, clamping down on the threads, protecting them with a wrap of tin can material. About 5 minutes each with a file and I had made new bolts.
Those bolts are 2 1/2 inches long, and the threaded area is about 3/4 inch, don't remember the thread specification, the bolts that are in the car that mount the front of the top can be taken to the store to get the right thread type.
Good luck with that top...remember if the headliner is sagging, there are lots of options for a different color that the grey, I have vinyl black with the tiny hole pattern circa 60's, and red on another...Chris

Sounds like a lot of work and a whole bunch of time for a bolt that only costs a few bucks.
I have at least 30 of those sitting on the shelf. If you need any, let me know....

my previous owners stripped every hole.
i needed to slightly enlarge and re-tap each hole and buy new bolts.

luvit, try coating the regular bolts with jb weld and screw them in. I have done this on stripped holes and was able to remove the bolts fine after drying.

Are the threads from the bolts above the visor the same as the thread of the the back 3 bolts?

2 above the visors are one pair.
2 behind the front seats is another DIFFERENT pair
1 one behind the rear seat is unlike the other pairs... if you don't have the original rear bolt, you may have to tinker with washers for the rear center bolt.

The 3 rear bolts are fixed to the top, and the front 2 are NORMALLY already attached to metal plates over the plastic covers where the visors are attached at.

The bolts above the visor are the same thread pitch as the rear bolts, just different styles...
I've posted a picture of the rear bolts on yahoo capri group, in photos, 'hardtops' I believe.
For 15 minutes work I made my rear bolts with no waiting for the mail and for someone else to decide to send them to me.
Of course, for the mechanically challenged, lazy, or busy folks, mail order is always there...as I suspect we will be reminded of many times in the near future...

I wish I could figure out how to remove my middle rear bolt, it won't line up properly or sit flush to allow me to put the cap over it.

All my tops are on cars right now, but one of them acts like yours, the middle bolt doesn't go down far enough...I think the threaded insert in the top has probably rotated around, leaving it too high...so when the rear bolt is installed it is too high also...next time the top is off (mine too!) look at that insert to see if you can put it down farther, back into place...share pics if you do it soon...Chris

Picked up the top and installed it. It was very easy, thanks for everyone's input. I am missing the bolt behind the passenger seat, but I am replacing it.
Does anyone have a rear defroster switch?

Besides the switch, you need the relay, as well!!

Where in the trunk is the relay location?

Under the trunk floor, right next to the emergency fuel cutoff switch. The relay actually bolts to the cut off switches bracket.....

Both sides are leaking at the joint of the small front window. Any ideas on a fix or adjustments on installing?
