When I bought my Capri the radio did not work.
It was an aftermarket radio and when I pulled it out I found that the Capri's wiring harness was cut so the wires were spliced to the radios wires.

I have bought a new radio and connected the power (yellow/black) wire and the ground(red) wire to the radio but the radio will not turn on.

The wires do have power going to them.

Do I need to actually install the radio into the dash and connect all speaker wires before it will work or am I missing something else.

Any help would be appreciated.

The radio is supposed to work with even just the power connected. Please try and check your radio again by hooking it up directly to the battery.

all radios have 2 sources of power

1 12v constant (always there)
1 12v switched (ignition on)
1 ground

all 3 need to be connected before it will work

some even use the antenna as a floating ground and will not turn on until the antenna is plugged in.

here is the wiring diagram
http://www.techcapri.com/Repair/Capri_Wiring_Diagrams.htm

find yours and make sure its to the right one.

I'll bet your radio won't work until you plug the antenna in!  Try that, and let us know what happens!

Its a new radio so I bet you have the installation manual. You would know it straight rather than experimenting.

Thanks for all the info and leads.

With all power and antenna connected I get a motor sound (CD Player?) for a second when I turn the key but no lights. After I turn the car off I get several beeps out of the unit.

Seems as if the stereo is getting some power.

Kind of stumped. Going out tot he garage to work on it some more.

If anyone has more ideas I would love to try them

replace the condenser on the out side of the distributor...the little black box...if there is not one there get one and it plugs into a white single pin connector that will be hanging around with nothing to do.

OK. Thanks everyone. I got the radio working.

It usually helps to use the correct button to turn the radio on and not assume which button it is.

Thanks again
