Title: Leonardo's 1991 , 82,000 miles, XR2
Post by: Leonardo on July 17, 2014, 06:54:58 PM

I removed that hideous spoiler that Ford put on a beautiful Italian design.  Hope the photos post.

Really nice car.  Mine is red and N/A, but some PO put the XR2 spoiler on it.  I'm like you, it looks good without it.

I removed it and plugged the holes with plastic fasteners with a little silicone to keep tight.  Not the best but for now much better.  One day I'll fill them and repaint the boot.  A much cleaner look for sure.  Thanks,  L

I gotta admit I'm not crazy about the bolt-on body part look,  but the 94 xr2 spoiler looks sweet.

My first capri had a flimsy aftermarket spoiler installed.  Driving it home on the interstate when I bought it, top down of course, there was this high pitched screech coming from the back of the car.  I could slow down and it would stop, speed up and it came back.  Thought for sure something BAD was going on back there.

I finally figured it out.  Seems the spoiler material had split at some time in the past.  The wind rushing by the split made the spoiler whistle like crazy.  I would have kept it as a funny quirk except I'd have gone deaf with the noise...Chris

My wife's another person who dislike any spoiler.
I myself, like them.  Depend on the style.  I like what I have.

The spoiler only spoils the looks of an otherwise very attractive car.  It just crates unnecessary drag too.

A convertible without a roof is not really the most aerodynamic thing out there :P

Personally I like the look of the 91-93 spoiler, it boxes out the rear end nicely IMO. There have been much worse spoilers fitted to much nicer cars. The 94 XR2 is sleeker but still isn't as good IMO.

As they say- to each their own! Your car looks gorgeous - still original paint?

Original everything but tires, fuel pump, filter plugs and wires.  Oh and brake pads.

I like the looks of your spoiler, what did it come off of?

The clubsprint didnt actually have a wing ! There's many that have been fitted with the 94XR2 wing (used on different models in Aus, slightly more common there) and the F40 wing I believe you're referencing is a purely aftermarket piece

Did a little research and F40 spoilers seem to be really tall similiar to the old Super Bird spoilers.  Any other ideas what it might be?

Thanks, Jack Byrd

The aftermarket f40 that Matt is talking about is I think made specifically for Capri.
Mine, I just measure the distance/width of the trunk for bolting.
Then I see how high I like it to be.  I think mine is about 8" for medium.
I then go out to look for the spoiler that might fit.
Remember end of our trunk is rounded off.
I think I got lucky with mine.
If someone can remeasure the distance/width of the trunk, maybe I can help you search for one.

I totally forgot about that site and was looking for it too.
Last time I was looking for the cover.
Nice, but man......$500 plus shipping for spoiler?

Thanks for all the info, but I only gave $500 for my Capri.....lol   Yours does look cool though the way it curves around the quarter panel.

Just got around measuring my wing/spoiler.
bolt to bold is 50"
Height is 8"
length is 57" just over the trunk 55" a little.

Look up spec on some car, Integra one would work.
