Title: Timing still off

Hello
All,  Just wondering if any has an idea what is up with this car.  I had my water pump go out which led to my timing belt breaking..Everything is back together waterpump, timing belt, new spark plugs and the timing just can not be reset?  Any ideas?  Puzzled?  Thanks all!

are you haveing a problem were it cranks starts and dies or just not fireing at all

Hello all,  replying to the last post of timing still off. Here's the deal.  My mechanic told me yesterday the timing is off.  Not necessarily.  The coil is working,  firing to the spark plugs but the car doesn't start.  He checked the compression and everything seems fine with that.  He's thinking maybe the computer or a sensor on the crankshaft but can't locate one.  Sorry for the confusion........Any ideas?  Thanks again.

Hey Xr2!  do you have a factory manual? It illustrates real good on how to line up the marks on the cams properly. After you do that then crank the engine over a few times to make sure the marks stayed correct.  Gus.

Gus,  Do u have to timing cover off then start the engine to see if the marks stay the same?  Also i read on the Forum chat that the main crank pull will spin out of index with the timing belt breaks i believe and give a false timing reading?  How would you fix that problem instead of Trial and Error.  My Mechanic can now start the car but does not stay on.  Hence, a dead battery and turns the next click on the pulley?

Hey XR2!  Yes! Line up the pulley marks, making sure you are on the compression sroke and lining up the crank pulley mark also. If the crank mark doesn't line up then you may have a spun crank pulley.  Gus
