B6

1,597 cc (1.597 L; 97.5 cu in) B6 — (78x83.6 mm) — This was a bored-out version of the B3. The 8-valve SOHC B6 was found in the 1985-1989 Mazda 323, the 1988-1990 Mercury Tracer, and the 1990-1994 Mazda 323, and the 1992 Mazda MX-3. The B6 was also found in the 1993-1998 kia sephia and produced 82 hp (61 kW).

In Japan and Australia a fuel-injected version called the B6F was available.
[edit] B6-2E

1,597 cc (1.597 L; 97.5 cu in) B6-2E - (78x83.6 mm), also known as B6-ME - This was a variant of the B6-E with a 16-valve cylinder head. It is found in the 1991-1994 Mercury Capri, 1992-1994 California-spec Mazda 323 and 1992-1993 Mazda MX-3. The B6-ME produced 88 hp (66 kW) and 96 ft·lbf (130 N·m).
[edit] B6T

1,597 cc (1.597 L; 97.5 cu in) B6T - (78x83.6 mm) - The ubiquitous turbocharged, fuel-injected and intercooled 16-valve DOHC B6, released in 1985 and used in numerous models worldwide including the 323 GT-X, 1985-1989 Mazda Familia GT-X/GT, 1985-1989 Ford Laser TX3 turbo, and later Mercury Capri's. This engine was most commonly found mated to a 4WD drivetrain although FWD models were also available in the capri XR2 & 323 GT.

Power and torque outputs varied across markets due to emission and fuel standards.

The B6T available in north america came with 132 HP & 136 ft-lbs

The Japanese version of the B6T was the most powerful, producing 147 hp (110 kW) and 137 ft·lbf (186 N·m) due to better intake manifold & ecu tuning for better gasoline 95 octane

from wikipedia..so its why i am wondering. a guy with a MX 3 was wanting to maybe buy the one i have here

intake mani is different .. valvecover is different.. distributor runs off the exhaust cam... computer is totally different and id imagine the harness is quite different...

first gen 4 cyl mx3s came with the SOHC B6 (middle picture)
the 2nd gen or 93 1/2 up came with the new version DOHC B6 (first and third pics)... unfortunately mazda made so many changes, its hard to use more than just the block and internals... its a b6, but like the miata this was definately a different version using the same block....

Pretty sure the heads are different, but can be swapped, because the intake manifold is not compatible with our heads.

Point being if he swapped everything in total it'd probably work, but not bits 'n pieces.

10-4  good buddy.... he might need a computer and harness to get it to work...
but the swap should be easy.. since your bolting the mx3 mounts to a b6 block ...

and yes tell him a b6t in an mx3 with mild mods will crush a v-6 mx3...and then some....

the next task sounds to me to be driveline, what tranny to use ???
