Hey Rock! Sounds like you need to back through the steps one more time. Something isn't indexed correctly.  Gus

It does sound like you might have a cam one tooth off, double check that.

Also, what shortblock do you have? Check the crank pulley for wobble if its a smallnose crank.

thanks gus and rocket for the info,i got the short block and it was the small nose crank i had taken the old crank, had it checked and polished and put it in the new engine block beings it was bigger snout,if i find the stuff to change it over i will have a spare when time comes, but i have checked back and checked again with the cams being off but they seemed like they were lined up,i will check again just because it is not that time consuming and i could have missed something hell you never know i'm not perfect i'm human, mistakes happen.will let you know outcome.

What build date is your capri?

Your harmonic balancer could be worn out too

Hey Rock! The harmonic balancer as you have found out does not swap between those two cranks, as long as the correct pulley is in proper place it should time. Also if you're not aware, the oil pumps do not interchange, so make sure you have the correct one in place. otherwise, no oil pressure.  Gus
