Finally got Ummyeahok to upload the work-in-progress pictures on the Capri.  They're at www.nikiatkins.com/capri under In Progress.  We're going on vacation next week, after that (provided I don't spend too much money in Florida) I'll be picking up the Focus dash and doorpanels and starting THAT swap.  Along with the new carpet.  Yes, all the work so far has been done myself.

caprimerseine was a site I put up with a bulletin board like this one, while this one was down once, because it was better than the yahoo groups - once this one came up, I took capri merseine down because this one already had a bigger following (and because I was getting nailed by internet worms and hackers and whatnot, so I shut off my personal webserver) - I need to get her to take those off.

Love the way it looks with the side molding cavity filled in.  One step better than just painting it!

Out of curiousisty ... did you just fill it in with bondo?

The side cavity moldings are actually filled in with a fiberglass filler first, then bondo over that to get a smooth edge.  The fiberglass is a lot lighter cured than bondo is, and is better for filling large holes.  I had intended to weld a piece of metal over the cavity and then bondo it in, but we discovered the metal was too thin to weld well when I deleted the antenna, plus if there were any moisture trapped behind it when I welded over the front, it could eat apart the door and I wouldn't even know it until it was too late.

Razz - we went to Destin - if we were going to South Florida, like Miami or something, it would definitely have been worth meeting up to see your triplets!  Maybe someday in the future we'll get down that far.

Anthony has added pics of my Sunfire in the friends gallery and my new interior pics.  The idea was better than the application.  Will probably be looking for door panels to try something else.

I know, absurd isn't it.  Heck, check the interior pic of my baby and you will be asking, who would put a red interior on a yellow car?

Nice work Richter, but I thought you were keeping it original for collector's value?    Either way I'm glad you changed your mind because it looks like a much newer car now without the side moldings

I was going to ask the same question about welding because I know many folks with Civics skirted the welding issue when shaving the moldings and ended up with cracks down the road. Hopefully using the fiberglass will ensure that doesn't happen  :D  Have you considered adding some sort of non-Capri spoiler? Maybe an M3 style lip spoiler or something? That would look great with the new sleek appearance.

It looks Great so far... Stripping the molding is one thing I wish I would have done when I re-did mine.. You can bet the molding will be the first thing to go when it is time to re-do.. All I need to do now is find the time to do it.. I agree with Chick, it sure gives the Capri a more modern look..

Richter, silly goof, UmmYeahOk isnt a member, but MyLittlePony is.

Capri Chick...  ...collectors value...   ...whats that? $1,500?   :D   Well, I guess thats more than what the car was paid for.

I cant wait till the cars painted. It'll look so hot! Oh, and I need to take more pics. Richter shaved off the rear bumper trim AND the 3rd brake light as well!

Note to copy cats: the trim on the bumper is molded onto the bumper itself. You cant just scrap it off like you would a metal door.

Hey Pony
I have a red interior in my red capri.
However, I'm gonna take it out and put it in my black capri.
The black capri now has a white interior and I'm gonna put that in the red capri.
But the teal interior is staying in my teal capri.

We definitely need to get some more in progress pics up - First focus seat is installed on the driver's side, second one should be done this afternoon - then a week of filling and sanding and total body primer this weekend.  I had to cut the trim out of the back bumper (read: cut the bumper in three pieces and remove the middle piece) so I added a 1" drop to it.  Still clears the stock exhaust just fine.

Capri-Chick - yeah, I thought about that, but what can I say?  The devil made me do it.  *points at mylittlepony*  Also, I actually started to fill with a backer plate, but the welder burned through the sheet metal and I said "Nope, not again" (welder not being just the machine, but the person who was to weld it for me)  The skin on this car is so thin, the heat from the welder would warp the panel if you used a mig to do your bead.  I've driven it around quite a bit, and haven't had any problems with cracking or delaminating yet.  The paint should help too, when I get it done.
