Hey Mitch! You can move the pivot ball away from the fork end of the shifter. I've done it on three of my cars. Just slice the pivot ball with a thin abrasive wheel that is available for use with a dremel tool. Afterwards wedge the ball open enough to move the ball about 1/2 inch up the shaft.release the wedge and temporarely install the shifter, check for the action. Don't go much more than this as you'll lose leverage and the mechanism will interfere with other things. When you get it right then spot weld the ball in two places keeping everything together. This a good time to replace the plastic bushings in the shifter and linkage. Good Luck Gus!

do they not make short throw shifters that would work for our cars anymore?

Hey Timmy! Pull the shifter out of the car and move the pivot ball up on the shaft approx. 1/2 inch. Don't more as it won't give enough leverage and will drag on the tranny. I've done three so far.  Gus.

if I move it the 1/2" will it get it out of the way of the cup holder that goes where that pocket is?

Hey Timmy!  Not entirely. Just imagine the shifter knob dropping 1/2 inch. I don't have a coin holder in my speedster so I can't tell you.  Gus

i have the adjustable unit from corksport/pacesetter... it works great and shortens throws considerably.. only issue is the shorter you go the harder it gets to shift...
but basically any adjustable throw shifter does it...its all about leverage....

I've read that works very well too but I haven't tried it. On my original one I slit and re welded it but I wasn't too happy with that.

Heyt Josh! I tryed once on whacking the ball with-out cutting it and ended up collpseing the ball. It's best to cut it first and  then spot welding it with a wire feed or using mapp gas in a torch and siler brazing it. Gus

Hey Chicken! You left out that last four letters in your net name. It must be tough living in Oakland and having to always carry heat for protection, or are you as wealthy as "Arnold" and always have an entourage surrounding you? Gus

Hey Chicken! Next time I might think I will encounter your kind, I will travel to Rio Linda and load up my pick-up bed with their finest and properly deliver it to the proper receiver. No thanks needed. Gus
