Hey 2! If you're going to pick-npulls then also look at mazdas of the same years. some of them are higher amperage also. There are two different alts that came on the Capris and they're so damn expensive at the parts houses.  Good Luck.  Gus

Early models (1990 - march 1991) have an 85 amp alternator, its a AC Delco unit with an external cooling fan. It has its own proprietary plug. Wiring is the same though.

But yes it is possible to swap to the later model 91+ alternator. Its a 70 amp Mitsubishi built unit with an internal cooling fan. They're much easier to come by, and they can be had relatively inexpensively NEW on eBay. You will need the late model lower pivot bolt but otherwise (other than the plug) everything is the same. The new alt should have the correct pulley on it.

Belt is the same.

Hey Rocket!  Holy crap, I just checked Ebay; $145 isn't what I call relatively inexpensive. The last one I bought about two years ago cost me just under a hundred bucks. I'm used to paying 30-40 bucks.  Gus

I won an alternator (brand new) from one of these guys about a year ago for around $6 + s&h. keep an eye on them they'll run $1 no reserve auctions every now and then to clear out overstock

Hey Rocket! Those are more reasonable although the ones on Ebay are supposedly brand new. Those still cost $100. Very steep. I'm going to put those guys in my references. Thank you!  Gus
