Hey Rocha! I don't know how to use those instant message features, so here I go. When you say you have a base model capri, should I believe you mean non-turbo? It doesn't matter anyway. Yes you can advance your timing 2-5 degrees. It'll give you a little more power from a stop. If you go to 5 degrees you might want to up-grade your gas a notch.  Gus. Any more questions go through here or at mustbegus@yahoo.com. Don't make yourself feel stupid for asking questions in the forum. When you ask then everyone learns. Nobody is stupid that way. But you may get several opinions. Gus

Okay, I would like to learn a few things here.
As you know I have the xr2 and I am supposed to adjust it to 12 degrees advanced. My question is that I do see 10 written on the plastic shield and also see a tiny mark on the crank pulley. Should I assume 2 points forward, I mean going clockwise is where I need to be?

to delhiboy: to answer your question and to teach you... its 2 clicks back or towards the firewall... the reason, is to understand a little about timing..
to advance your timing your making the spark sooner witch means going back ...
the sooner the spark in the rotation the more advanced the timing...
12* will be just a little above the 10* hash
your advancing the timing meaning spark sooner

this goes with any piston engine that i know of and if you can figure out witch way the engine turns you can figure out advanced and retard

towards intake advancing and towards exhaust retarding

i use a yellow paint stick and paint my marks..
that way you can use your timing light and just line up the marks..
theese are my marked camgears... you can see the yellow timing marks.
if you mark your timing cover about a markers width above 10* and the notch, in your pulley you can then see them..
hook your timing light to your coil wire, that will give you the best idea of where the marks are..
the coil hits on all 4 tdcs making your light flash every time a plug fires.. and yes all four pistons fire at 12* if set at 12*

i hope this helps answer your question and helps you learn...Joe...RCICustoms...

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Oops, so I figured I set my timming to 2 notches towards the front of the car, which means like 8 degrees. My car definitely felt sluggish after that and felt running a littlle lean. I would have to do it other way I guess.

8* is what a non turbo b6 is timed to stock, and a turbo model to 12* ive tried every degree from 8-14 and 12 is where it seems to make the best torque to horse power balance...

here, this shows the timing marks on my crank pulley... white or yellow paint sticks work the best..
theese show up well with a timing light...

nonturbo is 8*
turbo is 12*

IIRC the vac line to the dizzy should be disconnected when setting static timing too. that correct?

- Naturally Aspirated- Turbocharged Specification
2" BTDC      12' BTDC

This is what the techcapri.com says? Are we talking about 2 different things?
