i want to upgrade my suspension and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestion on what to get or where to get it. i want to upgrade my shocks, struts, and put on sway bars, so if anyone could help it would be much appreciated. basically what i am looking for is more traction because sometimes i get none.

It depends on what you're looking for out of your suspension. I have the H&R springs and Tokico struts which made for a nice ride at first, but turned pretty rough once the springs settled. It also dropped my car about an inch. On the XR2 you already have front and rear sway bars and it's as hard to find upgrades for those as finding any other part for a Capri. As far as traction goes, I have times when I don't get any traction even with 205/40/17 tires. The best way to improve traction is to get better tires.

Thats a good point. It will not matter what you have in suspension if the tires are cheap technology.

I have a 91 XR2 and have added a front strut tower brace. This little upgrade has stiffened up the front of the car tremendously. The car stays level and has no more body roll. Remember, this car was made marketed as a true sports car. Thus, the potential of this car is limited. It's not like the Miata (by the way, I hate Miatas but you can't argue with success, either on the sales floor or on the track).

Actually you could argue. Other then the fact that the miata was RWD. Miata wasnt much different then the capri. Mazda just advertised the miata well, where ford just seem to give up on the car from the start.

Ford owns part of Mazda, since they don't know how to compliment just compete, they didn't know what to do.

Ford is old school where muscle cars are the way for sport, where mazda is inexpensive sport with smaller more effiencent power. Yes ford owns mazda. Ford figured they put a car out like miata they can sell it. They did advertise it else they probly would have. Most people in the USA around then did go to ford for a capri, they wanted muscle thats where the mustang came in. Inexpensive v8 power you can buy in the usa. Price for the capri vs a gt mustand didnt help either with 3 times the power and twice the cylnders for roughly 5K more in cash.

True it is that tires are the cheapest and most efficient way to better handling...the next best thing if you want to increase traction at launch is to get 15 or 16 inch wheels and tires @ somethin like 225/(50-55)R(15-16) BFG KD's or Mich. Pilot PS@'s....the larger sidewall increases flex at the application of torque to the ground allowing for better grip (due slightly to momentary increase of contact patch and other physical factors)....17's are not the way to go if you want traction fellas....I'm not saying its not possible, but it will start you off on a much better footing....Look at Funny cars....they have 1000s of horses and tires with much wider sidewalls than contact patches!!! Go figure....let the engineers do the thinking for you!!! Also slicks would be sweet even though they're expensive....but oh the grip they give....You guys should read sport compact car or somethin...it answers so many questions about stuff like this....like they've had an article series in the past few months about expertly tuning you suspension and bettering handling w/ cost efficiency in mind....4.99 at newstands, 60 bucks for 2 years....you do the math

Im not sure what you mean when you say 17s wont give you more traction then 15s and 16S. Usally the larger the wheel, the wider they tend to be too. Most sports compact racing cars dont choose beyond 16s, is more so do to wieght issues. The larger the wieght the more the wieght to them. Now the wheels I have are actually lighter then the original factory 14s it came with, but if I was into racing a 15 racing rim, would be a couple pounds light in total.

bleh go with the 17's going around corners fast is much more fun than taking off fast.

wide sidwalls are great for going strait, but when you start to do corners, your handling sucks
check out the video of the cars going around the racetrack at the gathering this year. I have 14's on my car, and I wad driving on my sidewalls going around the track. Hopefully next year I'll have 16's or 17"'rs which should help a bit with handling (along with the new strut bar I just got from Cory)

i think the capri would have the distinct disadvantage at straight line drag being FWD and having a small motor but has potential around tight circuits with the weight advantage, shorter gearing and small turning circle.
logically you'd build a capri to handle well to exploit its attributes rather than build it for straight line drag and swim up stream.
almost like asking a long distance runner to box in the heavy weight division

I am runing on 17inch rims 7.5J 205/40 R17 and I just bought sway bar and tomorow i think i will buy strut bar and i want to buy coilovers but the are to expencive
