IAC Idle Control Valve - How to clean or service ???
« on: May 24, 2022, 08:38:25 PM »

So after checking countless photo's it looks like the IAC is just mounted to the throttle body area and doesn't have a direct port, but a rubber hose that runs into the throttle body.

Like every moving part, it has to be serviced somehow. Do you take apart, run some carb cleaner through it, ???

Any help, guidance appreciated. 500rpm, then 2,000rpm, then it cycles this way (3) times, then it goes into a normal high idle of ~ 1,700, until about 1,000rpm <--------- where I like it.

I know it didn't come from the Factory like this.

Many Thanks !!!

Michael

It mounts on the passenger end of the intake manifold, it has water lines, air lines, and an electrical connection going to it. I've never had any success cleaning it but worth a try. The N/A and turbo use different ones, so specify. The normal symptom for a clogged IAC is constant high idle like the engine is cold. Hope this helps.

I had success cleaning the IAC.  My wife's Capri had an irregular idle when cold.  I removed the IAC, cleaned the vacuum ports with MAF spray cleaner (I did get some carbon out) and assured the coolant ports were open. Reinstalled and the car has idled great for nearly 7 years now.
