oh wow, My "92" XR2 is even rarer than I thought. But when I go to my insurance company, they will only insure it for around $2000.00!!! I think I will leave it under the cover for another couple years.

get insurance with them. I called them while i had mine and they will insure it. since the car was made for 4 years in limited numbers they said its a car they would insure. One of the nice things is they will insure it at the value you put on it. can't be your only car registered and when it gets old enough they will issue you a letter so emissions is no longer needed..

so no need to park it...

These numbers came from a guy who has access to a database of all the cars registered in the US in 2009

If I've added them correctly that means there were 25,740 capris registered last year... wow

I'm impressed that there are still 239 94 XR2's on the road!

Glad the guy came through wasn't sure if he was goign to or not

Hey Guys!  None of my three '94 XR2's are currently registered and I have several '91 XR2's also not registered.  Gus

The only way to tell for sure, is the VIN.  But, if you get a chance to peek in the car, the upholstery should look the EXACT same as your 92, if it's a 92. They were different every year.

The only problem with looking inside....  Many cars have seat covers now...and many people have switched upholstery over the years....  so to be sure...  look at vin number through the glass on driver side (on dash)....  count over from left to right 10 digits....  if the 10th digit is a "M" it is 1991, if 10th digit is "N" it is 1992, if the 10th digit is a "P" it is a 1993... or for 1994...the 10th digit would be "R".  I hope this helps...and good luck!

Hey Matt, I do apologize for the .... 12 year necro-post here, but here goes...

I like to watch the prices of the Capri's on the used market. I had literally never even heard of them until the one I bought for $600 popped up on Craigslist at the perfect time. Well, a few sold this month on BaT. I believe one went for around $8k, one for around $9, and one went for $13.2k. $13,200 for an XR2?! So I got curious about how many are left on the road, which eventually landed me to this old post back here. Are you still in contact with the fella whom got you these numbers? Or does anyone have a family member that works for the DMV, and wants some shopping money? ;D I'm now dying to know just how rare these things have gotten, for someone to be willing to spend 13 thousand dollars on one. That's a whole lot of money for one of these. I'm sort of tempted to start a collection of XR2's now. Or at least tempted to go buy one that's already running, just so I can finally frigging drive one.

That's some impressive numbers, the first I've seen that high. I have noticed that there don't seem to be any deals out there like I got on mine.
