Title: Capri on eBay
Post by: CapriTypeR on December 07, 2010, 06:42:00 AM
There is a Capri on eBay right now.  The owner has owed me for the the last 6 months for the Kaminari top on the car (he owes me $350 for it).
I've been very patient with the guy, and tried working out a settlement, but to no avail.  I consider that Kaminari top stolen.

The listing number is:  260701292024

Or, just  Click Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260701292024).

Nice car. Guys still a d-bag though.

Mirrors are rice, and the exhaust is hick. Other than that I'd beat on it.

The car is decent, I've seen/worked on it personally - motorwise is mostly stock, raised boost etc so its decently quick, the custom seats are absolutely gorgeous, but the owner and his funding are extremely questionable, put nicely...

Anyone down in that area?

Not nice Dude.

I'm truly sorry to hear of your financial troubles but calling Russ a 'puke' don't fly with me.

I, for one, would be happy to associate with Russ anytime, anywhere.

Hey Russ! I'm sorry I'm not taking any trips back-east soon. Remember that F--K in Utah that burned you on a turbo. It wasn't long after my visit there in Salt Lake during my cross country trip, that he settled-up. Gus in Sacto

This thread has been flagged to me as a moderator. I will let it stand until I have contacted both parties involved and then take action from there.

Nick, if you've been trying to call me, please know I do not answer calls from restricted numbers.

Allow me to clarify:  He sent me a 3 month post dated check, drawn on the account of his elderly mother. I lost the check, as it had to sit on my desk for 3 months before I cashed it. I gave myself another 2 months to find the check before I requested a new one.  After calling him on a Saturday, he said the new check would ship Monday. After 2 weeks with no check, I called him and he informed me he went bankrupt 3 days prior.  I asked for my money or my top, and have not heard from him despite numerous attempts at contacting him.
I understand that I am not being sensitive to his needs by not understanding that he would prefer to hide behind chapter 11 or 13, than pay his bills. I also don't understand how, since he pays with his elderly mothers account, how that should affect my money. Call me cold, call me heartless, call me an asshole - he did.
If he was truly in bankruptcy, why have I not yet received any official notification from his lawyer, as he claims I was listed as a creditor?
If money is that tight, why was he shopping for a 10K+ Opel GT less than 2 months ago?
Nick, I'm sorry to hear about your financial troubles. It's rough out there, I know. I've been out of work since 11/07/08 when my job went to Mexico and China. I use Capri parts to pay my mortgage, and feed my kids. I know $350 isn't a lot, but it's a weeks worth of meals for my kids. Sorry if it seems as if I am overreacting. And threatening me won't help. (Direct quote from an email this evening:)

Why should I drive all the way up there. Meet me halfway.Just you and me. Im in bankruptcy ive got nothing left to lose. I have the balls. And I will call you right now will you answer the phone?"
If you are coming up here to kick my ass, can you bring the top with you, please?

Sounds like your guy here needs one too.   (http://smile.gif)

That's a nice car.  Anyone who picks this up should win a trophy at the 10th Annual Mid-America Capri Gathering since hardly no 92's ever show up.  (Sorry Josh)

I had a similar situation with a credit card company years ago - I sent them a check, they didn't actually attempt to cash it until months later.  Since I didn't maintain accurate balances on my accounts back then, and just used current balances according to the bank, when they finally did attempt to cash it, it would have over drawn my account and thus was rejected.

The credit card company still wanted their money, and I couldn't tell them "well, as soon as I sell the stuff that I bought on the card, you'll get your money".  I owed them, plain and simple.  I don't get a grace period with unlimited time until I find someone willing to buy whatever I have.

BTW, there is no legal expiration date on a personal check.  Most banks follow the Uniform Commercial Code, and won't cash a stale check, with stale meaning 6 months.  In Russ's case, that would mean 9 months after getting the check.

Regardless of all that, if the guy didn't have the money to pay what he owed Russ, he should give the top back, period.  Given what's transpired here, my money says that Russ won't even get any money even after selling the car (assuming of course it does actually sell), and he'll likely get some lame ass story like "gee, all the sales proceeds were seized by the court, and I didn't have any control over it".

********      UPDATE  **********

I received an email this morning, stating that he is sending me a money order today. I'll let everyone knows what happens.......

I wish the guy no ill will, I just need my money.  I feel I was more than fair by accepting a post dated check, as well as taking an extra couple of months to find it after I lost it.

Thank you, everybody, for your show of support.  It's humbling to know that there are people who think enough of me to back me up, even though they have never met me!  (http://graemlins/blush.gif)
I owe all of you a beer (or your drink of choice!)!!

Hey, even if you did give me crap about thinking about building a different vehicle, such as an Eclipse, instead of the Capri if I wanted to make big power, I still say you're an alright guy.

Regardless of my opinion of your character though, that crap just isn't right.  He owes you, period.  It is pretty amazing what a little bit of internet based persuasion can do though....I've seen it happen on a few of the 4x4 forums I've been a member of over the years.  Someone screws someone else, and the screwer suddenly finds a mob of forum people standing at his front door demanding money or parts  :D

I gave you crap??  Damn, I don't remember!  I think everyone should build what they want to build.  If they build a Capri, and it doesn't work out, I'll buy it for parts cheap!!

Again, thanks guys!!

Something to the effect of "I'll put the SuperRoo up against any Eclipse or Talon you could ever hope to build"..or something like that anyways.  I don't really remember, I just remember SuperRoo being involved  :D   Either way, I didn't take offense to it, I'm used to such things from the people I hang out with down here..."WTF are you building a Volvo WAGON for????  You should get a Camaro/Mustang/whatever-else-common-musclecar!"

LOL! I don't remember it, but I'll stand by it!! Unfortunately, I think the 'Roo's days are numbered, due to serious frame rot. After installing the new T-Bird turbo, as well as the new cams, we blew out the brake lines before we left my neighborhood for a test run! I think the next step is transplanting all it's goodies into a rust free chassis, and starting over.  (http://graemlins/big-down.gif)

It might have been on the email list rather than here.  But yeah, I hear you.  It's one of the concerns I have about mine, and doing the level of modifications that I'm thinking about.  Not from a rust standpoint, but possible collision damage.  The front bumper cover was pulled away on the passenger side when I bought the car, and the marker light on that side was also damaged.  The sheet metal around the area looks straight, so I think I'll be OK, but it's going to suck to find out that there is extensive damage _after_ I tear it down for inspection, lol.  The worst part though is that cheap Capris are few and far between here (cheap as in less than $1000).  Honestly, if I'm going to dump another couple of grand into a chassis, I might as well start with something that began life as a RWD car....I still keep thinking I should just build another V8 Chevette  :D

I don't care what anyone says - Chevettes are Bad-Ass!! A local guy around here has one that is bone stock, and looks like it just rolled out of the showroom.  To him, it is just a cheap form of transportation, he drives it all winter, the thing needs a good wash, but it is very solid.  I want that car!!!

I had a '76 Chevette in the early 80s.  I used to drive a lot between Maryland and New England in those days, when I was an undergrad.  It had a 4-speed as I recall.

I had to mount a speaker on the dash because at speeds in excess of 60, it was tough to hear the radio.  I bought it used with 49,000 miles for $1100 and sold it 2 years later with 99,000 for $1000.  I had to replace the timing belt during that time, but for return on $ and mileage it is one of the best cars I've ever owned.

I do remember, however, that when consumer reports rated the slowest cars on the market, the only thing that was slower than a Chevette was a VW Bus!

Frigging vultures......  ;)

JK!!

The car will live again, although with a different chassis. The entire drivetrain, and the custom pieces (yep, the hood!) will be rebuilt on a 93 rust free chassis. I need to decide if I'm painting the car, or leaving it Stratosphere Blue (the chassis original color).  I don't want to go with just "red" (sorry Josh!), but maybe a burnt orange, or candy red of some sort.  I even thought of a money green-ish color.
I've already sold off the pieces that were to be changed anyway.  Everything else will find its way back into the "Super Roo II"

Idea #2: Transfer the driveline into the Clubsprint. The engine is shot in that car, and it already looks hot.  Add a few pieces, and it would be a showstopper!
