Well I still have not had a chance to work on the Rocketman Intakes yet. I will get there.
Here's what I've been cooking up in the meantime though:

Now heres the deal: these are just prototypes to see if I could get the metal to flow in such a thin mold. They are just raw castings as pictured.
They didnt come out exactly as planned, the insides of the handles have plastic webbing that I will have to remove. This wont be an issue because the Aluminum is much stronger. Your plastic outside handle is still used, it clips to the now metal piece.
Who would want a set? They will almost literally be indestructible. How much are you willing to spend on them? It took me damn near 2hrs just to get this far with these. Should I bother painting them? Or is raw aluminum OK?
Talk to me!

Anyone?
-
Problem... ...anyone wanting these already knows the reasons behind the need. Anyone willing to send the dough to replace their broken ones with yours, has already bought oem.
Its a really great idea though, and I was only thinking about the present. But as for the future, if you could somehow get other capri sites to list the item for sale, it could be a made-to-order thing
-
Well even if they did buy OEM - they are bound to break again. Bothe of my capris had their handles replaced more than once. I just had a set break on me for at least the third time that I know of.
My hope is that by having these available - people will buy them when their current handles break, as opposed to going back to the dealer for a second plastic set.
I understand people have already replaced theirs, but they can break again.
-
Yeah, and if ours ever breaks again, we may be harassing you later for a set... ...problem is that I made the habit of closing my door without touching the handle. You see, for not having a handle for so long, and the fear of breaking it again, you just learn not to use it.
But people who can't learn have created a huge market for everything :D

One of my new favorite quotes :D
I find having a door handle rather convenient.
-
I could use a set of them but the big question is how much you would want for them. another problem for me is that my drivers side cover is broken too and I don't even know where the passenger side handle is anymore!
me personally, I haven't even replaced my stock ones that broke and just close the door without the handle.
-
So far I havent made any more than the set you see there - even that set I re-melted because I wasnt happy with them.
Hopefully when the weather warms up I can have some available for sale.
-
Matt,
Rick and I were talking.... If and when you try again and are happy with the results, let us know how much you would need for a set. We are interested in several sets (because eventually ours will break). Please keep us in mind!
Thanks! Cheryl and Rick
-
I've got some much finer sand that should give me some faithful reproductions - I'll post when I try to make them again.
-
I, too, am still interested!! Put me down for a couple of sets!

-
awesome idea! I would consider them 4 sure, but can they be powedercoated ?
-
Hey Rocketman! You've also got a customer here and good luck. Gus.
-
lol, its getting warmer!
-
It was 8* last nite, and its 14* right now...PA is having a VERY cold winter. :(
-
It's 45 here!!! I think some nicer weather is finally showing up in the midwest!
-
lol, I know I was cruising around with the windows down in my step-moms Corolla with cheap alloys, a fried clutch and no fourth gear but then decided it would increase my chance of being recognized in it.
-
2* last night and now its 23* with 6" of snow and ice only hours away.
I hate the winter.
-
ha ha, what you think the weather is like here!
-
Oh I imagine its all sorts of fun!
-
Hey Guys! 78 degrees and climbing here. Predicting rain tomorrow. Gonna make it sloppy again in my backyard and keeping from working on the Ladies. Gus.
-
Gus, do you have any pics of your cars. I havnt seen them yet....
regards,
-
Hey Spiro! I have lots of photos but I've not learned how to post them. I'm working on it but slowly. Gus.
-
Go to www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com)
Once you have created an album and uploaded pics, it will give you a tag that you can copy/paste here.
-
If you don't want to photbucket just right click on a picture, a menu will drop down. On the very bottom you will see "properties". Click that and there will be an URL in the middle, to the right of it is "address
http://"
For example, Rocketman's avatar is "http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/LtJerryRigg/rocket.jpg"
Once you have that URL you need to enclose it with image tags, [img] URL [/img] The URL will be in the middle.
Continuing to use Rocketman's avatar we would have
[img] ![url]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/LtJerryRigg/rocket.jpg [/img]
without the exclamation points.

That'll only work if the picture is hosted already, right? Hey Gus- Email me the pics, and I'll throw 'em on my photo site!

This is why I recommended Photobucket, because they will host the pics for you.
-
I'm interested in those handles. How much would make me decide if I can get them.
-
We'll see what kind of time goes into making each set.

Can I e-mail you some too? I just ran out of room on my Flckr.
-
Hey Guys! This is my problem amongst others in life. I haven't been able to figure out post phoyos yet. I've only been behind the keyboard of a compac for a year now. I forwarded some pictures to Russ and he's going to post them for me. I hope Xr2 and Josh aren't afraid of little boy eating ogres because there are photos of me in the set. My girl friend had Emailed these to me so I was able to do them. I'll get more as my knowledge of these electronic marvels grow. Gus.
-
All right People!! Gus's pics are now online and available for viewing!!
Click here (http://imageevent.com/roosport/challengerparts) to see the twins!!
Hey 1992XR2-
Go ahead and shoot 'em over to me, I'll post them as soon as I get a chance!

Hey Russ! Thanks again. Gus
-
Which one ran 13s?
-
Hey XR2! Neither of those two. That car is Janis, She's my first turbo capri. When I figure how to get photos in my computer, there is going to be a whole new side of postings. Anyway, Janis is a silver'91. She also is pretty stock except for sport springs from H&R. 21/2 inch exhaust from down pipe to rear. She also has a set of '94XR2 wheels in place. I'm presently running her at 10lbs until I get my AFR and EGT gauges in place. I was running her at 16psi when those track times were recorded. Gus
-
You ran 13s with the stock turbo at 16 psi? What tires and clutch? Were the intercooler and crossover pipe stock? Capri's are either alot faster than I thought or you are a damn good driver. I thought that with my 6-puck clutch, rt-615s, a bunch of weight reduction, an 11, ms, a stiff rear suspension, a fmic and a 2.5 in crossover pipe I might hit 13s if I had an awesome run.
-
Gus, the "white" twins look great !

-
I wonder if I send chills down Josh's and XR2's backs. Look out boys.
Lol, you look alot like my step-mom's ex-husband, who is completely awesome and paid me $200 last summer for helping him move for a day. So sorry, you don't scare me (http://smile.gif)
-
Any update on these?
-
when can we be expecting some production dates. I NEED DOOR PULLS (1.5 of mine are broke) and don't want to pay $30+ for something that will just snap right off the next time "superman" gets into my car and tries to shut the door like it is a full sized truck!
-
Guys I am trying really hard! I am sorry!
My last attempt didnt work, they're really, really tricky parts to make. I'll try again soon! I've got some more tricks up my sleeve.
-
slacker!
-
yeah the shape is very odd, I just thought I would keep the post alive to keep it on your mind. lol, I'm sure with how many of us have broken handles we will be able to compensate you for the time spent on these things!
keep on trying and remember you have a whole club of members backing you 100% in this adventure!
-
BUMP yea i want a set too ...only the pass is broke right now... but ill just replace both and be done with it...
-
I'm going to be working on my XR2 today, and if the weather holds out tomorrow i'll be running the furnace. I've made some changes so that I should be able to produce something to work with now
-
hey rocket , on a personal note do you live in a shop??? you come up with stuff that surprises / amazes me. like weekly bud...keep it up, you make my mind twerk and i like it....Joe
-
If by 'shop' you mean my parents house, then yeah I live in a shop. My workshop is an 8x12 shed I built when I was 14...its mostly storage now. I do a lot of personal stuff at work after hours but its mostly just basic tools...big difference is that I have a roof overhead and some space to work. My garage is an empty spot in the driveway lol
I make due (http://smile.gif)
-
your the best rocket dont be modest
-

-
Heres a link to a thread I made on BackYardMetalCasting, I run my foundry outdoors right next to my shed. I've scaled up my operations a bit since since these pics, there should even be a YouTube video of me pouring aluminum.
