Got it idling somewhat better, by cranking the idle set screw down and re-sealing it. I can get out of the car with it running and it takes a few seconds to stall out. I'm planning on stopping around a bunch of parts stores with a handful of hoses after work tomorrow to replace the last few odd sized original vacuum hoses still remaining. Between that, and taking the throttle body back off to adjust the stopper thing on the side of it, I'm pretty optimistic I can get it to idle reliably without needing to buy anything expensive.

I'm pretty sure the cold air idle thingy is working, as unplugging it causes my already poor idle to fall out completely. If it was a large leak (intercooler, pipes) I don't think I'd have it so close. It's got to be something silly and small.

Off idle, it runs and drives as well as I can tell within my .25 mile gravel driveway. I mayyyyyy go get it registered with the paperwork for the white chassis, which I still have. Then when I get the correct paperwork, I can just "sell" that car and register it with the new numbers. I just need plates so I can keep testing the thing

So good news, great news, and some bad news.

I did indeed find and fix the vacuum leak. Fantastic. I was able to warm up the car to operating temperature and take it for a quick drive. During the drive, I discovered my janky trailing arm repair didn't take. Then I parked, and my radiator promptly blew up. Yikes. Lots of smoke.

Gonna order arms and a rad.

Oh, I FOUND THE FRIGGING TITLE! Gotta go find a notary at some point now

So glad you found and fixed the leak that’s amazing. When you get a radiator are you getting the original one or are you getting a better quality one, I found a forum on here a while ago that found a better performance radiator that fits the car.

So I was planning on tracking down one of those fancy direct fit all aluminum units I've seen floating around. Then I went on Rock Auto, and they had a factory close-out deal on Spectra units for $66. So, more plastic it is. Eventually, I'm gonna end up yanking the stock intercooler and piping and replacing it with something beefier. Probably shortly before I have Rocketman fiddle with my ECM. When I'm in the bumper building mounts for that, then I'll probably end up shoving a bigger radiator and fan in too. In the meantime, I'm gonna clean up the OEM fan shroud, re-paint it, and make a way to seal it tighter to the radiator. Gotta make sure everything looks pretty, yeah? (I mean, now that everything in my engine bay has a fine green mist on it. Even the ribs in my hood are still dripping coolant. Heck of a mess, let me tell ya)

When I ordered the Rad, I also ordered a pair of trailing arms for the rear. I also ordered a new set of trunk struts, new radiator hoses, and a new gasket for the thermostat housing. I won't need the RR trailing arm, so if anyone needs it it'll be available. Also, if someone could send me pictures of how the bottom of the trunk struts are supposed to mount to the car, that'd be super helpful. Took the broken ones off like 2 years ago, can't recall where to bolt the non-ball end.

Anyways, all the bits should show up this week. Shouldn't take more than an afternoon to install. I have tentative plans to visit a notary with Rocketman next weekend.....and then that's it guys. The resto part of resto-mod should be done, assuming no more parts decide to implode after further testing. I'll probably spend the rest of the summer enjoying her in stock form, then this fall we will begin the modification part.  8) I'm planning on selling my daily driver once the Capri is on the road, and using those funds towards getting the Capri painted. (The daily is a 220k mile Altima, is probably worth like $15)

In somewhat related (but not really) life news, there's a reason the progress has been a bit slow lately. Up until a month or so ago, I was working for Nissan as a senior specialist technician. I had a 30 mile commute each way across the Appalachian mountains, so I was leaving home at 5:30am and getting home around 6pm. Well, I left that job and that manufacturer for something closer to home. I now work 5 miles from home, as a BMW tech. I took a little pay cut....but I leave for work at 7:45am and get home at 5:10pm. The shop is air conditioned. I get a ridiculous discount if I decide to lease a vehicle from them, and said discount reaches into ludicrous territory if I want to lease an electric vehicle. The shop is air conditioned. I get to regularly drive vehicles worth six figures. Did I mention the shop is frigging AIR CONDITIONED?!! Anyways, I bring this up now to let you guys know I've finished up moving just -all- of the tools across the mountains, and I'm re-established in my new shop. Progress should be more regular from here on out.

Oh yeah, one of the best perks of BMW....access to BMW paint. Ever hear of Dravit Grey?

Color shifts- it's a dark grey until its in direct light, then it turns gold. I'm on a mission to convince our paint guy to do the Capri in this color. Whatcha think?

You go man. The lower attachment point for the strut is a simple tab with a hole in it. There is a pin and E-clip to hold it in place and which is a PITA to install. I've lost several. Way to go.

That'd explain the several small e clips I found in the bottom of the trunk then lol thanks

Okay so I’m all out of ideas and could use some help, I had to put a new alternator in my car a while back and for a 2 months it worked fine, then one day the voltage gauge started to fluctuate when driving, but it would run, start, stop, and have AC, or heat, lifts and radio fine. Just the voltage fluctuations. Till about a week ago I was driving home from a car show and it just stoped charging, the alternator is just a few months old and the battery is also the same age. Then I put the new one in I had to re-wire the Volta regulator plugged that is on the back of the alternator because it’s was more modern, so I though I didn’t use the best wire connection so today I tried to do it with a lot higher quality on and it didn’t work, I am now just trying to think of anything that it could be, I did do a quick inspection of the wires for the alternator connectors that goes who know wear and they seemed oddly thin, have any of you have problems like this and do you have any way to help?

Sooooooooo the radiator I ordered showed up, and the dang thing is ~ 2 inches longer than the OEM one. It -wants- to fit, but it's putting up one heck of a fight lol.

Anyone run across this particular dilemma before? Everything else about the radiator is identical (plus two AT fluid bungs), its just longer. Just long enough to not drop right down between the headlight buckets. I think it'll fit, just unsure on how to tetris it on down there.

I've heard that same comment from folks on the FB group. It must be for some other Masda that happens to almost fit.

It's the strangest thing. It's identical in every other way; the upper and lower mounting points, the tabs to bolt the fan shroud to, the hose outlets are in the same spots and oriented the same way. Drain in the same spot. And yet....I don't think it's gonna fit. This car just loves to fight me I swear

Yeah, there's a longer radiator out there listed for the Capri that doesn't fit. Not sure where the aftermarket mfgrs got that, but it's there and hasn't left.
I think its a 28" vs a 26" or something like that.

You'll need to find a 26" or whatever it is
