NA 94 Belt Squeak
« on: April 18, 2011, 12:51:00 AM »

For Rocketman or anybody else, my 94 NA have been experiencing a prolong startup squeaky noise.  It will last almost 10 seconds.  When it stop, it sound like something is released and the idle jump to it normal high idle condition.

The only thing that could caused this problem would be the alternator or water pump.  The other thing is that I replace the belts last June with a set of cheap belts.

Any advice will help.

Thanks,

James

Double check your belt tensions,  almost every capri I've seen has that same squeal, including mine.

Opt for the better belt if you can - replace it if it looks worn at all. It probably does need to be tightened.

Over the past couple days, Ive also been experiencing start up squeal in my 91 XR2. Only brief, perhaps a second then it quiets itself.

Changing or tightening the belt looks like it could be a pain in the behind. Any advice?

Tightening the belt really isn't that hard. Not a whole lot of room to work, but really not anymore difficult than any other car I've had.

Changing the belt can get a little tedious because you have to remove the PS/AC belt, but tightening it takes all of 5 minutes.
