Help...
The 94 B6D to 91 B6T engine swap has run into major wiring issues...
When transferring the harness and ecu with the B6T there is a connectivity problem resulting in no spark and no engine start.
Changing the dash instrument loom resulted incompatibility issues.

Are all grounds checked, and was the engine tested before instalation?
Really wish I could help but this isnt my area of expertess and it seems like Chrispoe, AZGTX, and Rocketman are all busy the last week or so.

There should have been no need to change out the dash wiring harness. The N/A and XR2 dash harness should be the identical.
Now to the fun part…..
Did the donor car run before pulling the engine?
You swapped the ecu and engine wire harness, did you take the XR2’s ignition knock box off the firewall too? Without it, you won’t have any spark.
Does the engine try to crank over when trying to start the car?
When you turn the igniton switch to the on position before trying to start the engine, do you see the check engine light?
If you do see the check engine light, have you tried checking for any codes?

Thanks for responding... yes the donor car drove onto the hoist prior to the B6T engine coming out.
The donor car 91 clubsprint turbo engine harness apparently is different to the non turbo 94 engine harness... I believe there is no coolant sensor connection into the turbo ECU from the engine harness.
edit: its the SA 91 B6T ECU to SE 94 dash harness that is the issue as the wires are different colors... see next post

Apparently there is no spark
btw does anyone have a pinout diagram for the Capri B6D ECU... I have one already for the Capri B6T but if you have both that would be awesome

OK the mechanic advises the issue is from the 91 B6T ecu to the 94 dash / body harness... the plugs are the same but the wires are different colors.
He's got my car for a while until ths issue gets solved.

Always tricky when transplanting engines.....I would like to do the same with my N/A but I would like to go down the electric route at some stage when batteries bet better for DIY conversions.

I did this exact swap on Russ's blue 94. There was something funky that kept me from getting spark.
I remember something about an extra diode in a little module on the harness. I don't recall the actual solution, it's been so long

Any help would be MUCH appreciated... I have to pay guys to problem solve this issue otherwise... real expensive money.

Just remembered I have a wiring booklet for a 1993 Capri in my car. Ill try and take a pic of the diagram, and upload it tomorrow.

My camera wont focus on the book. Ill try using a different one. The good news this should help greatly because its a full diagram of the engine and dash wiring.

Great News, the sparky fixed the problem, only took 6 hours and AUD$440.00 to fix...
Cars ready to pickup once I return back to Australia from my trip to Thailand... should be in the new year when I can drive her again... this time with Turbo.
While I am in Thailand, I bought a turbo boost gauge from Depo, a Japanese company manufacturing in Taiwan for only $30.00 new... and a knockoff WRC deep corn 2 silver spoke steering wheel for about $50.00... I'll update with some pics when I get back from the pool... it's a nice 30 deg C here and it's Winter... lol.

So Angel what ended uo being the problem? Also I just talked to Russ apparently only 26 black xr2s were made out off the 26 I know 2 one near me and then you. Kinda intresting beinf as theyre so rare. That being said keep that car safe and be careful with the extra power.

Glad to hear they were able to get it running.
The Capri’s electrical system can be confusing at first until you realize the BF chassis it’s built off of was originally designed electrically for a carbureted engine. Overall the wiring isn’t too hard, there’s only 6 wires under the dash and 2 at the fender wall to make the engine run.
My BP swap initially didn’t have spark due to the ignition coil power actually comes from the fender wall and not from under the dash.

I know I'm bringing up a dead thread but was the issue due to the differences in years? I'll be doing the swap but both of mine are '92s.

Great writeup. I agree. I think the Capri would be an excellent vehicle to convert to electric.

Yes, the engine harness was different for the 91 and the 94...
The issue was also the ECU connections... the sparky put a new harness into the ECU... Some of the sensors had to get wired in I think.

Great writeup. I agree. I think the Capri would be an excellent vehicle to convert to electric.

If I was doing a electric conversion to a Capri, I would leave the original fwd drivetrain in place.
I would go the hybrid route and use a GTX rear setup. Modify it so the differential input faces the rear and install a right angle gearbox to it so the motor would stick up vertically in the center of the trunk. Then remove the backseat and use that space for the battery pack/freq drive to operate the motor.
IMHO... this would be the ultimate AWD setup.
