Inner CV Joint Popped out
« on: October 19, 2010, 05:26:00 PM »

So I was working on my daily driver, both front axles are torn open on the outer boot.  Passenger side is bone dry, driver side has a mess of grease all over it.  Figured I'd get some axles and just throw it all back together.  Problem is that the axle didn't want to go in, I accidentally pulled out on the shaft itself and the joint came apart.  It doesn't seem to want to jump back into the joint nicely. Can I just get this fixed at any old shop, or do I need another axle?

Inner joint is just a standard tripod joint.

The inner tripot joint popped apart?

IIRC there is a retaining ring inside the tripot housing - perhaps its busted/missing?

Capri goes sideways in the rain, leaks a gallon of gas a day, and doesn't run to boot.  I'm working on my 95 geo metro.

I mean the part the boot covers with the seat and the joint/bearings came apart.  As I'm told I can just stick it back together and put a clamp on it and it should work fine.
