That would be utterly amazing.  That would put us on the map big time.  Rensslear would have reporters coming in from all over the country.  I wonder if he would do it if we could get it financed?  Anybody else think it's worth trying?

in the video i think they mentioned the price, 17,000 Australian dollars. that is about 15,000 usd. and with the ability of going to 15,000-16,000rpm, im sure that car goes faster then our turbo counterparts. I sent him a email asking him to stop by the site and answer questions. will see what happens.

What I meant was I wonder what it would cost to have the car shipped here and back (and fly him of course) for the MACG?  To have that car and the GTXr2 in Indiana this year would be utterly amazing?  I bet we would have sponsors coming out of our tail pipes then.

That wouldnt be cheap at all. item that big would almost be 1:1 ratio between cost to ship equaling the value of the car.

So should I ask if he is willing if we can raise the funds?  I think this is unique enough that it may be doable.  I wonder if he would have a problem staying at the Sunset and eating at the truck stop with the rest of us Capri geeks?

can try, it can't hurt. i told him i couldn't fund him in any way to come to this site just to talk, since the site was a non-profit.

that would be cool... as for it being fast, i have serious doubts of it being as fast much less faster than a turbo capri... granted it will spin 15000 rpms, but so will a gsxr 600 motorcycle engine.. yet if you put one in a capri it would be a turd... torque is the issue here..
i have 4 rc models i mess with from time to time to get more power you add more cells and to add more cells in real scale means adding hundreds more pounds in weight .. so in theory to make it faster you make it heavier defeating your own purpose..(the idea is a perfect balance here)

besides your talking about something that isnt made to go fast.. its made for effiency...
think glorified golf cart... golf carts are not fast.. neither are forklifts... but you can use it all day and charge it when your done..

look at auto manufacturers like toyota and honda that have hybrid gas electric vehicles out already... they still use small gas engines to give the vehicles torque to get going and then switch them off once at cruising speed to make use of the electric motor for low power needs (cruising speeds, IE maintaining highway speeds)
we are still years from batterys that are light weight yet powerful enough to fully drive a 2,000 pound car on electricity...and be fast.

issue #2 just like an rc model.. an electric motors power delivery is very linear. if you were to develop a power source to turn an electric motor big enough to propel a car the power would be delivered all at once. meaning there would be a whole lot of spinning going on...

for example if you had the battery thing figured out and you were to develop a motor that made lets say 200hp (like a modified capri turbos engine)the amount of torque and power the gas engine makes at 6,000 rpm.. the electric motor would build instantly (think revving up a turbo capri to 6,000 rpm and dumping the clutch) it would sit in one place and spin wildly for about 3 seconds before even beginning to creep forward...kinda like my RC10TC4 does if you mat on it... in years to come yes i think we will see very fast electric powered vehicles but technology is going to have to advance atleast a decade before we see it come to prototype.. and im not being critical but when it does come it wont be in a capri.. it will be made of aluminum carbon fiber and fiberglass among other space age materials making it very light weight and efficient...
i really like what the guys thinking and actually doing with a capri ..thats some smart stuff... but were not quite there yet...

never give up!!!
dream it, design it, build it ...GO!!

exactly what i was saying ..very linear powerband
and when li-po batterys make it into this mans datsun it will get even faster and lighter..
i have li-po cells and brushless motors for my r/c.. its a 1/10 scale acura tsx.. if you take a 1/4 mile and scale it to 1/10 scale you get roughly 134 feet.... from a standing start my rc runs its 134 foot 1/10th scale 1/4 mile in just over 8 seconds... its also AWD with a graphite chassis and a plastic body and all aluminum suspension.. and a set of super sticky tires
filled with foam and not air (they wrinkle, yes all 4 wrinkle) so its far more sophistacated than a stripped 70s datsun.. this guys car is very impressive.. but its only the beggining of what could be done ... like i said give it a decade for battery technology to keep advancing and see where its at... put his setup into a ferrari chassis or shit a lotus chassis and see how fast you can go...another thing hes charging it betwween each run... basically to run 11s in the 1/4 its taking all the juice the batterys can muster ... as the technology develops he wont need to ... its basically a glorified rc car you can drive... the technology in that hobby is very advanced and when its learned how to scale it up to life size ther will be very fast electric racecars... 10 years!! give it 10 years yall...
