Post by: Heavensheros on July 30, 2009, 03:12:00 PM
Just my car back from Friend ... put clutch in the car for 200 plus fee to get flywheel resurfaced ... its got a pretty stiff feel and will take a little bit to get used to but i am very happy with it. cant wait for the break in period to be over with !!.

Hey, speaking of clutches. I want to put in a new clutch in my 92 xr2. Putting in a chip, MBC,
fmic, 2 1/2 exhaust, and intake. Will a stock clutch hold up or do i need more?

Depends on how old the clutch is. Answer is most likely.

Always a good idea to get a nice clutch though. Look at ACT, SPEC, centerforce, others can chime in too

I'd say upgrade the clutch! I have a Rocketchip, MBC, fmic, 2 1/2 exhaust, and a hybrid turbo. I bought a stock clutch to save a few bucks. It works fine for normal driving, but will slip (alot) when I push it. Just ask Josh about my clutch...........

I have one of these, over 10,000 miles on it now and not a problem, its a little on the harsh side but I'd rather have that than slipping.

Yep, ebay china clutch.

Thanks. We have the trans out now. I just bought a new stock clutch and pp and had the flywheel resurfaced. I quess i should have asked before hand. I will see if they will take the clutch and pp back and get a good one. Better to do it now than to have to pull the trans again. Man what a job. I think it might be easier to pull the whole engine out the top than to drop the trans out the bottom. lol. If they don't take the clutch kit back, i will take $100.00 shipped.
Disk, PP and throw out bearing, all new.

Yeah, if you can put in a good clutch now...

I've run an XTD stage II clutch before, held up very well. I don't see them making a stage II anymore though.

I've found its easier to pull engine / trans out the top & work on everything there, I did pull the trans out the bottom once, NEVER again.

I agree with pulling the engine and trans as one.

Its not too bad dropping the trans out of a festiva, the stock E-series can be lifted with 3 fingers. The G-series on the other hand, if youre a smaller guy you generally need help getting into place. Its like two festiva trannies.

the biggest problems I had were pulling the lower subframe and driverside control arm bolts...and then getting the car jacked up high enough to try to maneuver the trans out. Pain in the ass!

being that you gotta remove all the subframe and all to me its just as much if not less to disconnect the engine and one more mount and pull it all out

Friend of mine seems to think an act 6 puc disk with the new stock PP will be ok, or should i just bite the bullet and get the ACT complete kit? Disk and PP? Cheapest i've found so far is $368.00 for the kit.

I'll recommend the ACT Z62-HDSS kit which is the Heavy Duty pressure plate + the Super Street disc. Its a full face disk so its still plenty driveable, the 6 puck kits will have a harsher engagement.

The stock and cheap oem style pressure plates are crap. Don't bother with them...
