what is the cutoff with out a rocket chip? i have hit 7000+ and nothing..

starting to wonder if i might have a rocketchip already?

the car was not "stock" when i got it..had a ghetto MBC hooked up incorrectly allowing it to over boost and cold air intake..so i am starting to wonder...

I believe he sets it at 7200 but can adjust it to whatever you want set at.

well, the el prototypes (corksport) ecu i have banks rev limiter at 7500 the valve springs will allow valve float at 7200 so revving past that is very ill advised (thats y im no longer running low compression, bank 3 times at 7500 and pop) but ive banked once or twice without worries
if your smart you should put it at 7200...
the only real way to know is to go find it .. if you hit 7500 with nothing than stop.. its gonna go boom.... its also about load and fuel and air

 but 7200 on a stock set of valvesprings is safe
more than that is not

ive been racing on the highway and misshifted into 3rd when i was trying for 5th ive seen over 8,000 rpm.. but i wasnt on the gas becuase i knew as soon as i done it... just didnt have quick enough clutch foot to not see 8 grand...

 with valvesprings theese motors can spin pretty high...
ive seen full race build miatas rev 9,000... but thats with lighter, stronger, springs, retainers, and, buckets...and prolly like ti valves or somethin...

I was just going to ask you if you were running a rocketchip in your ecm.

any benefit in the corksport over rocketmans or the other way around?

By default I set my rev limiters at 7200 RPM...any higher and you get valve float, you're not really making power there anyway. On a stock capri the rev limiter is set at 6800 RPM. If you're going by the stock tach its not always the most accurate thing.

Pull apart your ECU and have a look. The ROM chip would be socketed and usually have a tag on it. My ECU's usually have an info sticker on the front cover.

You *can* rev to around 7500 if you replace the hydraulic lash adjusters with the solid tappets, you need them to high real aggressive cams anwyays. Valvesprings are a must as well, it all gets really expensive at that point! I aim to make most of my power down low so I dont have to poke at the upper RPM range, but sometimes its nice to be able to stretch it out on a straightaway. Keep in mind this is an oversquare engine with a stroke nearly equal to the bore size, so high RPMs arent beneficial like they are to a honda... Piston speeds get pretty dangerous too so its not the best if you want to keep the engine healthy and reliable.

go with rockets ... el is a faceless corp ..you can actually get on here and talk to rocket ...besides id much rather give my money to a killer guy like matt... if i were building it aggain id use a rocketchip... i didnt know matt or of rocketchips when i got the ecu from CS
besides someday were gonna get together and make a custom rocketchip for my build when i get more aggressive with it ..( cams, valvetrain, ect..)

I've also made safety chips with a real low RPM so you cant go joyriding...I can make them that work with flipping a switch... great for if you take your car into service. (not that I have my car worked on by other people but)

what all do you have to do (ground?) to get that to work? That would be good to launch with so you leave in boost.

oh shiznit, you tellin me you can put a two step on my capri, so i can hold it at say 4,000 and launch like the hondas with the chipped p-28s are
rev bank at 4000 ..build boost on the line and let off a momemtary switch to launch??

i had a TMO Stage 3 in my Eclipse...i loved that thing...

DSM guys know what i mean.....

There are ways of doing it...there is whats called a "two-timer" chip that holds two seperate ROM burns. One burn could be normal rev limit, and the other can be the launch limit.

I can also do that with stock/ modded maps...flip to stock ROM with a simple switch

You could easily wire the switch into your clutch or a VSS and achieve launch control or flatfoot shifting. It works in theory, I've never spent the money on the bits to test it but I can if someone wants (the chip is pretty expensive)
