Ebay rods worth buying? I'm just looking around at some things because I got a good deal on another capri non turbo and I was going to build on that engine and just swap after I'm done.

Eh. I've been thinking about putting a set of aftermarket rods in my engine. I'd rather go with the M-Tuned rods, theres another set of rods that go for around $300 and they have ARP hardware. ARP's good stuff.

Realistically unless you are running a massive turbo and over 300 hp the stock rods are just fine. I wouldn't trust the super cheap chinese rods there....
PS: might want to resize the pic in your sig there to something more managable

I was just looking around and figured I would throw it out there that they had a set on ebay.
The most I'm looking for is 200hp on my car when I'm done. Think internals are strong nuff for that reliably?

Definately. These things are fairly beasty engines, they're originally designed for rally use. The weak link is the transmission, in FWD they will start to fail at the 300+ whp mark. I wouldn't trust the stock rods reliably past ~275whp.
GTX rods are a more economical option, they've been going on ClubProtege for about $100 - $125 + s&h. They're OEM on the GTX engines only, they're thicker, theres a pic floating around somewhere.
200 is nothing for the car.

I have a set to let go for the 125.00..and that is a good price shipped. I have seen these things go for 200+...not to thread jack though.

I paid $75 for my rods with extra pistons. I needed the pistons after cracking one in a race. Good deal! You won't ever get to 300 whp without making the car un-drivable on the street. Like RM said trans failure! Don't break it they are getting harder to find every day. Just ask a GTX owner about trannys. By the way I know where to get 2 of them (not mine).

Well the GTX uses an AWD version of our tranny, and its easier to break... on top of only ever being 1,243 being brought to north america. Much rarer.
Where do you have access to GTX trannys? I'd be interested but I'm swapping my GTX trans out for a stronger AWD trans from the later model GTX found only in japan

j spec auto has a all wheel drive tranny, as well as anything else a guy might need. Any body dealt with these guys?? They carry lots of used jap motors, 1295.00 for a delivered B6T motor with between 20,000 and 60,000 miles. Has all the hardware like turbo and intake... comes with a 30 day warrenty on the performance motor, complete with commpression check and all.

Shop around, the B6T's used to run 800 or 900 bucks not 1300.
Even still thats a lot of money to me for a motor. I got my BP longblock for $100 with 70k on it.
The JDM motors are supposed to be 150hp but noone's ever felt like they are. Also, all of them are the small nose cranks.

whats wrong with small nosed cranks??
put the damn keyway in properly... ive had two b6t engines with small nosed cranks.. never had an issue before. just pay attention that its in properly before putting the crank pulley back on..
besides the mazdaspeed oil pump only fits the small nosed cranks...
as for 1300 for a b6t is crazy. weve bought like 5 between the festiva and my capri and aint paid more than 600.00... paying more for a jdm b6t is a waste of money when all you get is a gawdy intake manifold....
if 1300 bucks must be spent.. save some more and get a jdm bpt you will be much happier
if you have, or can find, a good head.. ebay still has shortblocks brand new in the ford powersports box for 400.00
there higher compression, but with a cometic gasket and arp headstuds ive pushed 23psi with a 14b charger and it holds up just fine....

When using the Cometic gaskets do you use any sealer or just put them on raw????

raw.. ive never used any type of sealer at the head gasket

i think only copper requires a sealant but then i guess you could use a sealant on any gasket even the stock graphite ones...i dunno, i dont, i slap em on raw and tighten them up tight...
