What is everyone using?
45mm is stock, anyone using a different offset?
-
I have a set of 4 15"X6” 4X114.3mm 1983-1987 MAZDA 626 OEM "phone-dial" alloy wheels (Hollander #64639, Mazda P/N H076-89-376) with 205/50/15 Falken Azenis. I'm not sure of the offset. The clearance to the rear strut is very close, but it's never rubbed once, even when autocrossing. The wheels look like they were made for the car. The center caps from my 14X5.5 OEM '91 Capri wheels even fit (I liked the "blank" center caps better than the "Mazda" ones). These wheels are pretty hard to find - I looked for a year to find a set.
-
i got a set of 17s in the garage, i hope to get the 205/40/17 on them this week. i just hate to buy the tires then the rims will not fit because of the offset
-
dang, i cant believe i didnt see this thread...
there 16x7 5zigen Japan, Fighters, in silver... the rear struts are really close.... and im running 205/40/16 bfg g-force sports...
ive painted my center caps gun metal...
i love them ...there 15lbs a piece... and the tires kick ass, even in the rain ...the only drawback is they wear out fairly quickly...
-
yeah i had a lot of problems in this area no one seem to be about to say this WILL fit and what offset works the factor is 44 and you can find 40 easy but the wheel places says i need a 35 or 38 and once you buy your stuck and that sucks i want a 15x6 205 50 15 dam it lol
-
Will 17"x7" rims fit dpending on the offset?
-
yes
205/40/17s are only size that will fit
-
anything 14"-17" will fit... but putting a 17 on a capri, is like putting 20s on a cutlass... your limited to 1 tire size.. 205/40/17...
a 16" wheel gives the freedom of about 3 or 4 different tire sizes... and a 15" lets you choose basically how far off you want your speedo...
i run a 16" wheel...there lighter weight, tires are cheaper.. you have more tire size options..
and you dont raise the car up at all...
.....Joe...RCICustoms...
-
thats cool but the thing i need to know is what offsets fit thats the problem no one knows the offsets that will fit with out rubbing
-
I'm not sure if it can help you but this is what works for me:
I have 15 x 6 1/2 OZ wheels that are just perfect, with 195/50/15 and the offset is 40.
I tried 15 x 7 with a 35 offset, still in 195/50/15, they are too large, but if I use the low springs, they are just fine and look good.
But 205 wouldn't work on these, the strut is too close and also they would be out of the fender.
I think 35 is a limit, but offset is just one of the parameters.
I wouldn't try 17x7 on mine, I don't know how I could do, so maybe the turbo are different
-
Ok, i know this is an old thread. I just don't want to open multiple thread with same question.
I'm want the low profile look.
I know the 17" is limited and choice with the 16's. What's the recommendation for plug and ride, no need to recalibrate anything.

I run 205/55 R15s - have for 20,000 miles with no rubbing issues - and I've had the car on long distance trips in excess of 1500 miles, twisty roads, luggage and 2 passengers. I had to recalibrate the speedometer for $80 but I think it looks good (see pic) and I never met a speed bump I had to worry about.
-
All the sizes i posted will NOT need any speedo work
-
I dont really know what the number means other than the Radius. Would this work without any speedo work?

If you have anything other then what i posted the speedo will be off...
You wont even be able to notice the difference with the size you are messing with
-
If you like to see sidewall, that would be a good choice. If that's what you want to do, getting your speedometer recalibrated is no big deal. It cost me $80 and the guy caught an issue with my odometer as well.
Another thing to think about is how far you are putting it out. Discount Tire's website (I think) still has a calculator that tells you how far out you are going to be based on the original tire size and the one you are going to.
For about the first year I changed to my 15s, I just carried the chart around for when I got into higher speeds where it deviated more than 5 mph from where it was supposed to be.
The important thing is to get what you want.
-
my car was dead on with the 17s
every speed trap I would go through matched up, I even road behind my son one day at different speeds to see how it matched up...
-
I may have missed it, but will the 17's fit witht he lowering springs?
Thanks
-
I'm an idiot... The springs sit on top of the shock so lowering would have little to no effect on the clearence. Maybe turning in the front, but that is it.
-
With any brand of lowering spring, you won't have an issue. They only drop 1.5-2".
If you choose the Ground Control coilover kit, then you might run into fender clearance up front, depending on your wheel choice. (the GC kit you can really slam the car)
-
Ok,
Could this 195/60r14 throw off the speed?
Stock 185/60r14.
-
Nevermind, it's from Honda, it won't fit. 4x100.
-
ok this might sound annoying but what about the offset every ones answered the size but what about the offset like for a set of 16s
-
we need to have a section on this website that answers all of these common questions. every few months a new person comes on here and asks the same questions. (no offense to the newbies).
Anthony, I am sure all of the same questions are taking up more bandwidth than posting a section of F.A.Q.'s. Can we make this happen?
-
Use the search button...that's why it's there.

Use this tire size chart and you will get your answers.

I'm running 205/40R16's on my 94 without a problem.
-
Found a real nice deal on 17s with tires, but will need spacers, as the tires are 215/45r17. But the deal is too good to pass up.
-
Just get the right size tires. 205/40/17
Sell the tires you have on them and get what you need. Buying the correct adapters is costly, selling the old tires & using the money towards the correct size will end up costing you the same or less.
-
good point
-
First set fell thru, but I found a second set that come wrapped in 205/40R17's.
Sweet
-
got "new" rims on the car. They look sweet.

Pics!

Here is a pic of my "new" rims.

Nice, needs dropped just a bit
-
I agree, but one thing at a time.
-
195 60 14's? Will they fit? Spacers?
-
On what size wheel though? Size + offset are usually the critical factor.
If you're putting them on stock wheels you're going to need to come down a bit in sidewall profile I think. They'll look like balloons on stock wheels
I think 195/50/14 or even 195/55/14 will work but I'm not positive on that one. There's a good tire calculator out there to help figure it out
-
I went on Tirerack.com to check out tires and tire/wheel combos since I am also interested in upgrading this summer. Here's some info I found out that might be useful:
1. When you put in our car (not the 94 XR2) it lists 185/60-14 as the OEM size. They do not sell 14" rims.
2. The common tire/wheel combo size tire is 195/50-15 (OEM size for the 94 XR2).
3. For a 16" wheel, the tire size they list is 205/45-16.
I looked at a few tire/wheel combos using a 15" wheel. The offsets varied - 35, 40 and 45. The combos came with a centering ring. Is this ring needed if the offset is different from the OEM offset (which is what?)?
-
The offset determines how far the center of the wheel is moved from the hub face (how far the wheel tucks inside the fender, too close it will rub the strut)
The centering rings are if you wish to retain hubcentric wheels. The center of the stock wheel fits over a round boss on the hub, this centers the wheel & holds the load (as opposed to relying solely on the lugs for this)
Aftermarket wheels are generally made with much larger through-holes so they fit a wide variety of vehicles, and thusly you'll need an adapter ring to retain hubcentricity
-
Thanks. What's the stock offset?
-
Does anyone know what the stock offset is? I don't know if 35, 40 or 45 is the same or different than stock. I assume one of these is stock.
-
I ran a search, according to this site: http://home.mindspring.com/~mcdonald.joseph/XR2/Wheels.htm
the stock wheel offset is 45mm
-
Great info. Thank you. Here's the website: http://home.mindspring.com/~mcdonald.joseph/XR2/Wheels.htm

Check out this great picture from his website: http://home.mindspring.com/~mcdonald.joseph/XR2/Wheel%20Offset.jpg

Yeah, I know the thread is old.
Using 1982 280zx 14" +7 offset wheels. I dig them very much.

Great info.

Holy hell, I had these wheels, too! Put them on my N/A while my originals were getting painted.
